A Busker’s Rise
Outtake: FAVORITE TWILIGHT ZONE? “The one where they try to give this girl plastic surgery because she’s so ugly [Eye of the Beholder]. She ends up being regular looking, while everyone else looks like pigs. Genius.”

Record Release Round-Up
Local Blindspot Records is preparing to issue its 20/20 tribute album, featuring pop covers by Sven-Erik Seaholm, Marie Haddad, the Spring Collection, and Mark DeCerbo and Four Eyes. The label also plans a collection of acoustic studio demos from mod scooterheads the Shambles, covering 1996 through 2008 and limited to 100 numbered copies signed by the band. “I’m hoping to include some original memorabilia,” says label head and Shambles frontman Bart Mendoza, “like a flyer, a ticket, buttons, and that kind of thing, though the packaging remains a problem to be solved.” Also on Blindspot will be Anna Troy: Live, a compilation of live tracks from throughout her solo career featuring various venues and band lineups. “It’ll be seamlessly edited and mastered to sound like a single performance over one show,” says Mendoza, “to present an overview of her best tunes and gigs.” The release party is August 6 at Bar Pink. Goldmine: The Songs of Buddy Blue features music by the late Beat Farmer and music columnist. The July 18 release party at the Spring Valley Inn - site of many early BF gigs - will include the Buddy Blue Reunion Band, Romy Kaye, Sven-Erik Seaholm, Rick Wilkins and the Nards, ButterFace, the Taylor Harvey Band, and the remaining reunited Farmers. Unknown Motive will have a record release party for their new album Rock ‘N’ Roll Revolution at Soma on July 3. The CD release party for Waves, a compilation of O.B. music Vol. 1 happens July 17 at the Masonic Hall on Sunset Cliffs Boulevard. On the bill are Bad Science Fiction, Blackbirdz, John Miller & the Payback, Chuck Edwards, Danyavaad & the Shimmy Sisters, MELD and Steve Phillips & the Pescadero Pickers. Gayle Skidmore will be offering tunes from her upcoming album release when she plays the Marquee on Friday, July 3, where two of the new songs will be available to purchase as demos. Audios’ CD release party for their newest hip-hop opus In Search of Chin happens at Winstons in OB on July 23. Other locals with new albums due soon include Iranian-born folkie Bviolin (Stretch Reach) - Big Mountain spinoffs Quinazo (La Ofrenda) - The Modlins (Where Does it End) - Tribal Seeds (The Harvest) - Ashley Matte (No Number No Address) - Switchfoot (Hello Hurricane) - Plus Project: Out of Bounds, Ghost Bird, and the Predicates, whose fourth album Words Teeth Sleep is self-released. Says singer/guitarist Gregg O’Connell “Who needs a record label these days?”

Cowboy Bebop and Gypsy Crawl
Outtake: SOMETHING ABOUT YOU FEW WOULD KNOW OR GUESS? “I was an altar boy, who once almost burned down the church accidentally. Sorry, Mom!”
— July 1, 2009 6:32 p.m.
Freeworld Rockin'
Outtakes: MAC OR PC? “Oh sure, I’m a PC. I just love viruses and blue screens. Being very sarcastic myself.” WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH THE POWER TO SEE THE FUTURE? “Grab my guitar and write more songs in three months than Bruce Springsteen did in 40 years. Except I would be too scared to listen to those songs!” BEST PLACE IN SAN DIEGO TO SPOT CELEBRITIES? “Channel surfing.” GREATEST ADVICE YOU EVER GOT? “Let the fear of regret be the force to overcome the fear of not going after your dreams.” AND WHO GAVE YOU THAT ADVICE? “Uh, okay - I just made that up.” SOMETHING ABOUT YOU FEW WOULD KNOW OR GUESS? “In my past life, I was a King and had lots of money. A sarcastic King. Who makes stuff up.”

Heh heh, so I guess zebras aren't "evil" after all. However, even the above stripe-lover's description of the critters at her ranch makes it sound like zebras are a-holes ----
