James Bond in a diaper toga. WTF is this movie about? I saw it three times at the drive-in, and I still have no idea. A futuristic society of fey-and-freaky aristoscats captures the aforementioned Diaper Man (Sean Connery), to force him into deviant sex acts that he's far better at than the 'scats. And something about the Wizard of Oz. Methinks there was too much leaf burning in the writing room, or else not enuff leaf burning in my car at the drive-in ---

RE #13 "I'm aesthetically pleasing" --- that's a better pickup line than offered by any of the band members!! I'm stealing that one for myself ----

Twilight Zone
People keep "remaking" classic Zone eps, for radio dramas, comic books, TV show revivals (two of them so far), and movies such as this 4-part anthology. Myself, I'd like to see more SEQUELS to classic Zones, as in the latterday series ep "It's STILL a Good Life," which takes the original series story of the boy who controls the universe (one of the tales remade in TZ: The Movie) and picks it up 20 years later, after the boy is grown. Played by the same child actor from the original episode Bill Mumy, he now has an equally all-powerful daughter (played by Mumy's real-life daughter) - now THAT'S the way to update the Twilight Zone! TZ: The Movie also remakes the classic George Clayton Johnson story "Kick the Can," about a group of elderly citizens in an "old folks home" who wish to relive their childhood, playing innocent childhood games like Kick the Can. The original B&W episode grants them their wish, though most of them end up deciding NOT to give up their lifelong memories and achievements permanently. Inexplicably, the movie version turns this around - all but one of the elderly dreamers DO become young again, choosing to stay that way. Anyone who follows Rod Serling's original series knows of his oft-stated message/mantra that "You Can Never Go Home Again" (A Stop At Willoughby, Walking Distance, etc). TZ: The Movie also remakes the classic "Nightmare...." ep where Bill Shatner spots a gremlin on the wing of the airplane he's riding, giving the best over-the-top performance of his career. Considered one of the all-time favorite eps of the original series, it should have been the LAST ep to be eligible for recast and remake. John Lithgow is no Bill Shatner. And TZ:TM segment director George Miller is no-way no-how Rod Serling. I understand Leo DiCaprio now owns the rights to do a Twilight Zone movie (he also bought up Dark Shadows, another vintage supernatural TV show) - let's hope he's a better guardian of pop culture legend than the makers of TZ: The Movie.

Outtakes: YOUR BEST PICK-UP LINE? Pozzi: “Hi, I’m Pozzi.” Teo: “Hi, I’m in a band.” Mario: “It’s more of a look than a line.” ANY FEARS OR PHOBIAS? Pozzi: “Zemmiphobia, an abnormal and persistent fear of the great mole rat.” Mario: “Spiders.” Teo: “Losing my voice. And snails.” Nick: “Not being good enough.” Colin: “Snakes.” FIRST PET? Pozzi: “A dog named Tag.” Mario: “A German Sheppard named Slimer, like the ghost from Ghostbusters.” Teo: “A big sheep dog named Abby.” Nick: “A white west highland terrier named Sasha.” Colin: “Two English setters, Lady and Casey.” MOST HATED TV COMMERCIAL? Pozzi: “Anything related to Tyler Perry promoting his horrible shows.” Mario: “All those commercials for date chat lines.” Teo: “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.” PSYCHICS – REAL OR FAKE? Pozzi: “Real.” Mario: “Probably real.” Teo: “Truly fake.” Nick: “Fake.”

Fritz the Cat
Animator Ralph Bakshi would become far better at his craft with movies like Wizards and American Pop, until apparently forgetting everything he knows to do over-rotoscoped semi-live action Fire and Ice (based on Frank Frazetta artwork), Cool World, and similar crap. I personally like the sequel Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat better (a non-Bakshi production), but there are still some great moments in the original Fritz. There probably never would have been a Heavy Metal cartoon, or Rock and Rule, had Fritz not opened the door for adult cartoons. Not to mention rarely screened adult 'toons like Dirty Duck ----

The Aviator
Being about such unique and fascinating/quirky individuals, the Aviator should have been far more engaging and revealing. Instead, movies like this are like looking at a glossy coffee table book that's 80 percent photos, a bit of huge-typeface filler text, and lovely hardcover binding, immortalizing content with far less intrinsic worth than a beloved old dog-eared paperback pulp novel ----

Zardoz
James Bond in a diaper toga. WTF is this movie about? I saw it three times at the drive-in, and I still have no idea. A futuristic society of fey-and-freaky aristoscats captures the aforementioned Diaper Man (Sean Connery), to force him into deviant sex acts that he's far better at than the 'scats. And something about the Wizard of Oz. Methinks there was too much leaf burning in the writing room, or else not enuff leaf burning in my car at the drive-in ---— December 27, 2009 8:39 p.m.

RE #13 "I'm aesthetically pleasing" --- that's a better pickup line than offered by any of the band members!! I'm stealing that one for myself ----— December 18, 2009 1:32 a.m.
I understand Leo DiCaprio now owns the rights to do a Twilight Zone movie (he also bought up Dark Shadows, another vintage supernatural TV show) - let's hope he's a better guardian of pop culture legend than the makers of TZ: The Movie.— December 17, 2009 9:24 p.m.

Not to mention rarely screened adult 'toons like Dirty Duck ----— December 14, 2009 8:50 p.m.

The Aviator
Being about such unique and fascinating/quirky individuals, the Aviator should have been far more engaging and revealing. Instead, movies like this are like looking at a glossy coffee table book that's 80 percent photos, a bit of huge-typeface filler text, and lovely hardcover binding, immortalizing content with far less intrinsic worth than a beloved old dog-eared paperback pulp novel ----— December 10, 2009 4:47 p.m.
