Then he should know the CEQA law and that this project MUST go through a full CEQA review. — May 17, 2010 11:40 p.m.
Weakening of "Honest Services" Could Affect SD Cases
the 1 person breathing a huge sigh of relief about this is Toni Atkins after 8 years of handing millions in tax payer money to her longtime developer girlfriend. She must have been at least a little nervous that the Feds would investigate this situation that greatly enriched them. We still barely know the extent of it since developers hide behind their LLCs but I bet if we dug deeper we would see the full extent of this unsavory behavior. I still cant believe she isnt in jail especially after the pension scandal and that she is running for Assembly. I hope they get her on something before her and her developer partner destroy whats left of California. So I guess this is a HUGE green light for council to continue to vote to put tax $ in their own pockets.— June 24, 2010 10:56 p.m.
Weakening of "Honest Services" Could Affect SD Cases
SCOTUS also recently ruled the corporation has 1st ammendment rights because it has been legally defined as a human being. If the corporation is in fact a human being like BP then it also needs to be convicted and sentenced for murder and shut down. BP the human is a murderer. What human can commit murder and pay some money and go on doing the same greedy wreckless behavior that killed 26 people?— June 24, 2010 9:56 p.m.
Weakening of "Honest Services" Could Affect SD Cases
This country has officially gone to hell. I think the Jesus statue being struck by lightning last week made it official.— June 24, 2010 9:54 p.m.
Mind the Gap
Maybe if we stopped giving all our tax money to developers to build un needed housing (5 million to build "the Boulevard) we would have $ to build things like bridges. I suspect we are being way overcharged as usual so I think there should be a major revamp of the costs, but I would support tax $ to build bridges over housing anyday. There is no real oversight, council just throws $ at these people and then doesnt make sure they are getting what they have paid for....just look at "the Rennaisance" at 30th and El Cajon....pretty sure we were overcharged for that piece of garbage.— June 24, 2010 7:45 p.m.
Who and What is SD's Most Powerful Special Interest, the Building Industry, Pushing This Election
Point well taken Founder. I was in a hurry to post this so people could know exactly what the BIA is supporting. I didnt post my endorsements because I didnt want it to sound partisan or to be about me. Its just so easy to go their endorsements page and this speaks volumes and volumes....way more than any political ads. Yes prop D is by far the biggest threat and I still cant believe people voted for it. I just have a hard time believing that in this economy people voted to spend millions to add a council seat (even if they like Sanders and dont see his very close relationships w/ developers and military contractors). god help us!— June 9, 2010 8:19 p.m.
Battle for the Boulevard
Oh wow I recently wrote about this in my blog. I had no idea that this project was in the works until recently. That is an amazing block. It has the only other saltbox building in all of SD and 2 pristine craftsmans and an old clay tile building. That was totally ignored by the developer in the historic report. that alone is reason NOT to trust him. Not to mention 1 of the craftsmans was recently set on fire and I witnessed it. I believe 1005 it was developer arson and not transients living in an 8" crawlspace w/ candles.— June 1, 2010 3:12 p.m.
Proposition D: How to Buy an Election
I wrote about the North Park Redevelopment Agency last week because they are about to slaughter another block of craftsmans w/ our money. 12 craftsmans were destroyed on Florida street for another HUGE affordable housing project. the developers got 3.8 million in property tax revenues to do it. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/weblogs/ive-got-iss… Anyway, please keep up the blogging on D. You are so right on and its a shame to see so many papers like Citybeat selling out to developers, but then again they always have.— May 31, 2010 11:54 p.m.
Proposition D: How to Buy an Election
You are awesome Don! You totally nailed it on this one. And as a side note how in the world can we trust a mayor that was (maybe still is) on a consulting firm for Blackwater...Willows LLC. If people dont get the MAJOR developer connection w/ the mayor then at least get the part where he is super cozy w/ Blackwater. How scary to have a Strong Mayor that supports Blackwater and all their plans to build training facilities here. Don Id like to see you look into th Redevelopment agencies and their special powers. It is the cities latest and probably greates scam. All they have to do is say a project is in a redevelopment agency and bam they get to take the property tax revenues and literally hand them to developers to build housing (as long as they put some benevolent sounding word on it like "AFFORDABLE HOUSING" OR SENIOR HOUSING ETC.) Look at the latest project planned on El Cajon and Alabama street. They are getting 5 million dollars of tax money to build a 5 story giant building. HUGE profits.— May 31, 2010 11:47 p.m.
Come On, Carl
D is for Disaster and Dictatorship Look no further than who is pushing Prop D. Doesnt everyone wonder why the "yes on D" campaign seems to have SO MUCH MONEY!? Its not because its a good proposition its because it is being pushed by the building industry and specifically McMillan Land Development, which already enjoys a WAY too cozy relationship w/ the mayor by having their lobbyist Kathy Riser head up his "technical advisory committee". Why do you think Pro D signs are on every construction site....every fence surrounding a previously slaughered craftsman home wants you to vote for D. This Prop is WAY worse than we know. No ON D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!— May 26, 2010 12:24 a.m.
