John Moores sinks Padres pay to number 29 of 30 teams
surfpuppy, I agree with you 1005 about the Chargers not moving to LA. In fact NO ONE is playing football in LA. Roski doesn't have and can't get the money. The fact that he fell from 163rd to 397th on Forbes List and lost almost 1/3 of his worth probably chaps his butt something terrible. And since the commercial RE bottom is still along way off, it doesn't look to get any better for him any time soon. The Chargers may leave SD, but the sure as heck aren't going to LA.— August 28, 2009 12:05 p.m.

Response to #29 Actually Josh, he didn't pitch too badly for the Dodgers. He had close to 20 wins his first year and led the league in era the next year. I think the only bad year he had in LA was 2002. That's the only year his era was above 3.00. I also remember he had surgury for a ruptured disc; it sticks in my mind because I had a similar back problem a couple of years before that. However, when he was traded to the Yankees, he really did suck. It's not like that's never happened before. Just ask Randy Johnson. I think he had an era of 5 or more one of his years there. However, he certainly didn't give the Dodgers their $100 million worth, but then again I don't believe Any player on any team in any sport is worth that much. Of course, I'm not trying to buy a championship either.— August 27, 2009 5:34 p.m.

shizzyfinnn, Of course the Padres were too cheap to sign Brown. They couldn't afford him any more than most teams in baseball. The Marlins had a fire sale and let him and $4.8 million contract go to the Padres for 3 minor leaguers. His 7yr/$107 million contract with the Dodgers was the first ever $100 million contract in baseball. Even the LA fans thought that 107 million was over the top. As I recall the Padres offered him 6yrs/65 million, which was the 2nd best offer.— August 27, 2009 10:42 a.m.
Marilyn Monroe -- Lives Her Life Like a Body in a Box
Actually, I believe Johnny Carson was cremated. Another interesting tidbit is that the unoccupied crypt to the left of marilyn Monroe is owned by Hugh Hefner— August 25, 2009 11:30 a.m.
Seven Year Itch
SD After giving some tought to my post, I have decided in our case the word tension might have been used to better describe our situation. Stress connotes some consequence of failure and certainly that wasn't the case. Poor choice of words on my part. But we have had to deal with stress. The teenage years of a daughter, serious illnesses and deaths of family members, personal health issues, job issues, the same stuff most people go thru. We are just lucky that, to a large extent, money hasn't been one of them. And as for someone who thinks stress is imagined for the most part and a ruse "championed by greedy psychiatrists", I have a few close friends, people I'v known for many years, who had multiple tours in Iraq. Tell them that the mental, emotional and physical stress they felt was imagined. And for that matter, their spouses also. I guess that means PTSD is "imagined for the most part" too?— August 21, 2009 10:32 p.m.
Seven Year Itch
Are you mocking me the surfpuppy?.Obviously you are not in the position of being able to build your dream retirement home and spend that kind of money. Anyone who has gone thru an extensive, major and costly home reno knows what I'm talking about. You mightwant to talk to some of the families who lost their homes in the last couple of fires whether or not rebuiling is/has been stressful. A couple being able to agree on literally hundreds of decisions, under time and sometimes money constraints is not an easy thing to accomplish without some stress here and there and maybe an occasional spirited or discussion or two.— August 20, 2009 2:33 p.m.
Seven Year Itch
I also disagree with # 8. We have a daughter, now 23, from a previous relationship my girlfriend had in college. Obviously, I knew about her, and as #9 said, rearranged my priorities because of her. There was never any question about it to me and I simply cannot imagine having done anything else. It has simply never been a "stressor" in our relationship. And I agree with # 9 in regards to stress not being the only thing that pulls couples apart. When your child is a joy to have, you don't have any financial, or career dificulties or any of the other "stressors" to which # 8 refers, that doen't mean all of your"problems" are eliminated. As # 8 put it so well,"Some folks just get bored and look for something else to spice up their lives. Some are so self-absorbed they forget there is another person in the relationship. And some just simply don't have a clue about life, love and companionship." It takes alot more than stress to end a relationship and to alot of people, those things are just not that stressful. And #8, if you want to test your relationship, try spending about 5 years planning, designing and building your dream house together. That is a test of your relations that you cannot possibly understand unless you have actually done it.— August 20, 2009 11:53 a.m.
Seven Year Itch
I was married at one time;in college. We made it about 1/2 way to the seven year itch. Money led to our demise. Well actually, I guess the money issue just hastened the demise that was probably coming anyway. It wasn't lack of money, though. We actually came into a large sum and she decided she would rather take her half and run, I guess. My girlfriend and I have been together 17 yrs next month, so I guess you could say we've passed the "itch" twice now. I was 32 and she was 28. We have had almost the exact same conversation that you had, several times. Only ours has usually been precipitated by the breakup/divorce of someone we know. I don't know if the fact that we had already known each other for about 12 years has helped, but I'm sure it hasn't hurt. I agree with number 1 that you have pretty muched nailed the things that make make a realtionship not just work, but continue to grow. Especially the communication part.— August 19, 2009 2:59 p.m.
Not Fair
surfpuppy, you are exactly correct. The purpose of these cameras IS to generate revenue. If anyone cares to do a little research and find the studies that the installation proposals are based on, you would find 3 things: 1. almost all of the proposals were initiated by the companies supplying the cameras and the proccessing of the data they provide, 2. I heven't seen one yet that does not list the possible revenue generation as the first benefit, 3. If you read them through, almost all of them are written as if increasewd public safety is and afterthough. The interesting thing is that recently, I have heard of a few communities trying to get out of their contracts because they were not generating the revenue expected when weighed against the cost, which has also led to a few communities canceling plans to put them in. If that doesn't say revenue is the main priority, I don't know what does. On a personal note, my girlfriend and I lived in Dana Point few several years. As long as I can remember, there has been a red light cam in the left turn lane on eastbound Ortega Hwy at Del Obispo, at least 15 yrs. Every body knows it's there and the only ones who ever get caught antmore are tourists going to the beach or the mission. My gf got nicked once, when she first moved there, probably about '94. But she was driving my vehicle, so when the citation came, I went to court, showed the picture of a woman driving and it was dismissed. It was alot wasier to beat back then and alot cheaper. I think the fine was only like $100 or $150.— August 17, 2009 3:21 p.m.
One Badfinger Standing
I think Keith Moon made the remark in reference to the band lineup being thrown around a little earlier when Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck were still playing togehter. I think it was him Entwistle, Page, Beck and maybe 1 or 2 other names thrown around. I think Moon actually said the group would go over like a lead balloon. I had always heard the Entwistle was the one who said something like " or maybe like a lead zeppelin". One thing I do remember is that for a while, Jimmy Page wanted to use keep using the name Yardbirds for the group. It was one of the founding members, I don't remember which one, that got a court order for them to stop because he still owned the name, or something close to that anyway. I read about it in a book I found in a bookshop when we were on holiday in London a long time ago, at least 15 yrs ago. Like you said, it seemed to work out pretty well. I found your comment about the Who and their fans interesting and I agree. But what to you think the Zep fans would say if Page and Plant wanted to tour and Jonesy didn't? I don't think they would mind and might actually come down on Jonesy for mucking things up. I guess maybe the legend of the Zep looms larger inthe world than that of the Who. LOL!!!!!!— August 4, 2009 1:26 p.m.
