Spit at in Del Taco
One thing the officer at headquarters said to me is that the responding officer would look at video surveillance at the restaurant, so he may have thought the report would be better filed in the field. He also said there weren't that many calls in the queue, so he didn't think I would have to wait as long as I did (a traffic cop who pulled someone over on the street where i was waiting also looked up my call and said there weren't that many in the queue.) On the other hand he did say that he can't take my report. So if you are correct, then that is a problem. That the responding officer in the field not only refused to talk to the security guard witness or request video footage, or even file a report after I waited so long, seems to me the biggest problem.— August 31, 2018 10:46 a.m.
Spit at in Del Taco
San Diego Police Department responded to my questions after I submitted the story and one policy I received is relevant. https://s3.amazonaws.com/themis.datasd.org/polici… Department Policy 6.04 about crime/incident reports. Section IV(A)(4) "All misdemeanor crimes are to be reported if the crime is against persons or property and has a victim against whose person or property the crime was directed." Section III(B)(3) "Deliberate failure to report a crime is dereliction of duty and grounds for disciplinary action."— August 31, 2018 10:38 a.m.
Build the Wall sign attracts Waterfront Park scuffle
When an elderly man who has spent his life in public service is the victim of an attack why would law enforcement officials treat him such that he feels he is being given the runaround? When a reporter questions the City Attorney, the top law enforcement official for misdemeanors in the City of San Diego, about whether the perpetrator of an attack against an elderly man will face charges, why would her spokesperson's first reaction be to make a serious accusation against the elderly victim? and against a reporter who sees the need to tell his story? It's a completely false accusation by the way. Telling the story of an elderly man who was peacefully demonstrating before he was robbed and injured is not advancing a hateful position. I don't advance positions of any hate group and I believe Russell when he says he is not part of a hate group and does not hate his political opponents. "The people yelling at me and attacking me are the hateful ones," he said.— July 13, 2018 3:32 p.m.
Build the Wall sign attracts Waterfront Park scuffle
Mr. Russell is an Army veteran and retired fireman of 27 years. He spends several hours a day cleaning up trash because he wants communities and roadways to look clean, not because he doesn't have anything better to do. Is that what you are thinking, only a homeless person would spend so much time picking up trash?— July 13, 2018 12:35 p.m.
Divergent takes on El Cajon
I appreciate Nelson's constructive criticism. The odd aspect to his dissatisfaction with the story is that he misportrays an unconventional story as if it were conventional. Then He criticizes it for supposedly being conventional. Then he proposes an utterly conventional story as the solution. Sounds like the story would have been dissatisifying whichever approach it took.— June 20, 2018 12:55 p.m.
El Cajon is my city
I found a certain poetic essence to the city of El Cajon I didn't expect to find and before I did this story never realized how much art there is here. Colors seemed to be a part of many of the short stores I found, whether it be the cultural/racial diversity, the geography, the art galleries, or the numerous characters I encountered that happened to have favorite colors and sport them proudly. El Cajon is a place of many colors. One interesting bit of history I learned about the city is that is has been a hub for migration before the waves of Middle Eastern immigration started. The town historian told me when California first started offering relatively more welfare than other states, waves of poor southerners began migrating to southern California. The first major bus stop was in El Cajon, where many of them got off and made this town their home. Ironically, that bus stop was where Ali Baba restaurant now stands.— June 14, 2018 2:38 p.m.

Ace friend seeks Horton Plaza deal
Ironic because Ace parking recently lost their parking management contract at Horton plaza to another parking company.— April 22, 2018 12:32 a.m.
The wild west is back in San Diego
That's a good question. Another question is whether there are bicycle lanes on the streets. Are bicycle riders more in danger of getting hit by a car on the street or are pedestrians more in danger of getting hit by a bicycle on the sidewalk?— April 10, 2018 1:40 p.m.
