Eleven opera board members demand information
Is there a way to negate the previous vote, as the vote to disband was not an agenda item? It is great to hear that there is a cadre of board members who aren't just sitting down for this.— March 28, 2014 4:23 p.m.
Opera president denies ugliest rumors
I think what is going on here is a lesson in semantics. If, as I heard, Mr. Campbell and his ex-wife will be paid through 2017 whatever their salaries are, then perhaps that is not being considered retirement pay, although they would not be working for the SD Opera. Just being paid by them. Supposedly they will not get health benefits. But Mr. Campbell does get the proceeds of the sale of all sets, costumes, props, music (?), etc. owned by the opera...while Karen Cohn might not call that a golden parachute, if it is indeed true that terms of his contract put all this in Mr. Campbell's hands...then I would have to say this has been one elaborate and sickening set-up.— March 28, 2014 4:21 p.m.
Quinones, Ricasa, Cartmill, Cabello weigh pleas vs. fighting
I've mentioned this before but here goes: a documentary called "If You Build It" is playing at various theaters and film festivals around the country. It tells the story of some young people (engineer/designers) who want to teach high school students the skills that go into making things. They follow a class from a high school in North Carolina. This program is now in use in Berkeley, CA in the middle school and the high school. Please google it! There is so much that can be done to reach students who learn better in non-traditional ways.— March 28, 2014 1:32 p.m.
Opera president denies ugliest rumors
They are being called rumors, not baseless rumors, so I am tending to think there is something to all this. Mr. Campbell apparently has things all figured out. I hope the rest of us get a chance to know what he knows before he skips town.— March 28, 2014 1:27 p.m.
Opera president denies ugliest rumors
I heard again that Ian Campbell gets to take the proceeds of the sale of all props, costumes, sets, etc., and then his severance/retirement will be activated. I know Mrs. Cohn said he isn't getting retirement benefits, but does that mean he isn't getting healthcare, or that he isn't getting any money following the closure of SD Opera. Because I have also heard that he will be paid his salary through 2017 no matter what. I can't quite figure things out here, but maybe you have better information.— March 28, 2014 7:58 a.m.
Opera president denies ugliest rumors
What about family members who might feel they lost out and now think their loved ones were taken advantage of/convinced to leave money to the opera, when those in charge had an end game in mind?— March 27, 2014 7:24 p.m.
Opera president denies ugliest rumors
If those in charge are not going to willingly release the information, what would the next step be?— March 27, 2014 1:50 p.m.

Looks like a post of mine disappeared without a trace!! Hope I didn't offend anyone--or at least anyone who is on the side of open books, honesty and responsible leadership in Sweetwater UHSD!! Soooo, back to business. When has Ed Brand ever bothered with legalities? The Voit Real Estate firm seems to operate just fine on Ed Brand's word alone. One wonders if they are beginning to second guess that position. The massive hemorrhaging of our tax and bond monies into Ed Brand schemes and scams has got to come to an end. I am surprised that the sheriff's dept. hasn't paid a visit to Sweetwater with regard to all of this--but then I have always been a believer in the justice system, at least most of the time. Let us hope that the Justice System is not going to let us all down here in south San Diego County, where wishing unpleasantries away might appeal to some, but is no solution. No, there has been far too much deliberate misuse and abuse of the educational system and its financial underpinnings to let things slide. If someone feels they must limit my free speech, or has an issue with what I say, please discuss. I will try and find out why my last comment went the way of all things rather sooner than it should.— March 27, 2014 12:32 p.m.

It was on the website through Monday, but may have been removed by now as it looks like there was a 'general clean up' done on the website.— March 27, 2014 8:35 a.m.
