Opera operative advised no discussion of fat checks
Brinksmanship...— April 23, 2014 5:59 p.m.
Millions for football in San Diego, zilch for opera
What I really do not understand about this proposal for the Chargers' stadium close to Petco is the parking problem. It is already a challenge to find parking, If I understand the proposal, the stadium would be built where there are now parking lots. So where will all the baseball fans and football fans park? I do not think it is feasible for people to take public transit from all the suburban areas to these stadiums. Am I missing something? From that very basic question, then there is the debt. Would the city of San Diego be on the hook for the whole thing? The county? Who would get to OK it? If one entity (such as the city) OK's it, would the other (such as the county) be forced to pay for it? $700 million and counting, right? Bond issue for the next 75 years? What would the most practical plan for this--or the least offensive plan? And how would the real needs of the city be addressed?— April 23, 2014 5:11 p.m.

Thank you! That is the group. I wonder what will happen with the remainder of the group and the fund.— April 22, 2014 9:09 p.m.
Opera operative advised no discussion of fat checks
When I think back over this past opera season, I remember that there was a group of women who I believe were called the "Angels", who were an investment group and who had pledged to support the 50th Anniversary of the SD opera, the 2015 season. I wonder if anyone would know if this group is still actively supporting the SD Opera, or if they folded when the word came down from Mr. Campbell. The amazing thing was that in the final program, they were still listed as being sponsors of the 2015 50th Anniversary season--they may even have been listed as such on the cover. Which makes me wonder even more about the timing of the announcement of the "closure".— April 22, 2014 8:14 p.m.

I am not sure if this means that the entire "data mining" portion of Common Core will not take place. It is so very amazing to me that collecting test results and compiling them on each and every student for the duration of their public school years could ever have been considered a good idea--not just to be held onto by the school, but by an overweening bureaucracy. I do hope that there will be a deliberate and sensible look at all of this.— April 22, 2014 7:54 p.m.

Well, one could say there is evidence of raging ego, which sometimes goes with the territory when creative vision is called for...maybe not to the point of disturbance, but not quite in balance either.— April 22, 2014 1:43 p.m.

There is a recent Washington Post article about the data mining portion of Common Core. I will try and post the link and hope it works! The comments are very important, because they point out how completely out-of-touch with the teaching community this whole thing is. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/answer-sheet/…— April 22, 2014 1:20 p.m.

We need to find out if there is a safe way to donate. Has anyone heard anything?— April 20, 2014 7:34 p.m.
