“John McCann and Ed Brand should resign”
Looks like Judge Espana finally got the memo, because according to an article in the UT, she has said that she does not have the jurisdiction to allow Cartmill and Lopez to remain on the board. She claims she had been unfamiliar with the section of code that covers this...and I would just like to mention, *why would she be unfamiliar with this section of code when she has had YEARS to prepare for and work on these cases?* So...Johnny Boy gets his wish and is the last man standing. (Q: How do you tell that McCann is the last man standing? A: All others have left the room.)— May 8, 2014 8:44 p.m.
“John McCann and Ed Brand should resign”
Ms. Luzzaro, I really like the headline on this article. For some reason, it warms my heart. Thank you for that extra ray of sunshine!!!— May 8, 2014 11:30 a.m.
“John McCann and Ed Brand should resign”
McCann yet again demonstrates why he is his own worst enemy. Aside from never doing the right thing while on the Sweetwater board, he goes all out at this juncture to eliminate Cartmill and Lopez. But not in any way that could be considered halfway intelligent, such as merely stating something like "We should make sure that the statutes are followed, as they have been set up to handle situations such as this. Due process should be followed, and we will accept the end result of the process for Mr. Cartmill and Ms. Lopez." Sensible, reasonable. Instead McCann needs to do his best to grab attention and local headlines, demanding Cartmill and Lopez leave the Sweetwater board--while using verbiage so high-handed as to further show the ridiculousness of this entire thing. McCann wants so badly to be the last man standing--why? So he can boast of that? As if that would be some sort of great achievement? Please. No wonder McCann ends up annoying people to the extent that they will pay someone to make signs and flyers with the express purpose of MAKING JOHN MCCANN GO AWAY! I have said before that McCann suffers from something that is a grave problem for a politician: he has a tin ear. Meaning, McCann simply cannot comprehend when he is annoying or mixed up or acting out in juvenile ways or making a political move so egregiously, disturbingly wrong that it defies belief. If McCann had handlers, would he be smart enough to listen to them? I have seen no evidence to back that up. I have only seen an individual so small-minded, so wrong-thinking, that instead of acting for the greater good, he does the opposite for years, and then PRETENDS he has done the right thing. At the very least, this community needs people who can recognize reality, and work to make things better. McCann has had many years in the political spotlight, and has messed it up royally every time. Save us from McCann!!— May 8, 2014 10:59 a.m.
No teachers’ union, no political agendas…
Oh, brother. More complete bilge from McCann. Does he really believe this stuff, or does he pay someone to dream it up? It is so off-base, it might actually be funny if it were in the context of a comic scene in a film. Unfortunately, it is John McCann being John McCann, which is to say, being an individual who clearly lacks any kind of reasonable and good judgment. He needs to be kept away from decision-making positions. Help us all...work together to keep Chula Vista safe from John McCann!!!— May 6, 2014 5:20 p.m.

Ms. Luzzaro, that seems to be one of the big questions for these charter schools. Of course, we have the Sweetwater example where Brand keeps saying that the charter schools aren't costing the district anything...but are the charter schools paying for their facilities usage? It seems to me that the more educational monies are diverted into charter schools, the less control the public has over those monies, and that may well be one reason why charter schools can be popular with school administrations. That, and it is a way to shift emphasis from specific things that need to be improved in a particular school to a "fresh start" that really might not even be much more than a metaphoric coat of paint. I hope you are in the Mueller Elementary Hall of Fame!! You certainly deserve recognition for getting the word out on all the educational issues we are struggling with here in south San Diego county.— May 4, 2014 12:05 p.m.

Yes. Almost like bank deregulation. Remember how great that was? I hope the parents really think this through.— May 3, 2014 9:58 a.m.

Corruption cut from Sweetwater schools?
Wow! McCann must stay awake nights trying to figure out ways to spin his poor record as a Sweetwater trustee--and this is what he comes up with? People are better informed than he seems to think. Is it laughable or sad that his sense of reality is so far off? Instead of trying to find a new dais to sit at, McCann should try and do SOMETHING right as a Sweetwater trustee--and call for that performance appraisal for Brand. Or is it already too late? McCann--really.— May 2, 2014 8:23 p.m.
No teachers’ union, no political agendas…
Great that you gave full disclosure, Ms. Luzzaro! But what about lab sciences? You can't throw those classes together at the last minute. Parents would have to be extremely unhappy with the secondary school district to decide to try something this new--that really doesn't even exist yet! Oh, wait, that secondary school district would be Sweetwater. Never mind.— May 2, 2014 3:37 p.m.
