Busy week at Sweetwater school district
He has to stay here for a few months, though. At least that is my understanding. Trujillo is an educational consultant now--and he was the crooked superintendent before Ed Brand's first go-around...so some of these people just keep finding a new position, or scam or some such.— September 6, 2014 11:12 p.m.
Busy week at Sweetwater school district
Ok, so Gandara might be staying with friends here in the South Bay. Because we know he only rented an apartment when he was working here, right? The question is, will he be renewing some acquaintanceships, so that he can resurface as part of the after-school corporate welfare programs that Sweetwater runs? We need to keep watch over all these players, because they never seem to want to go home. For them, the game is always on. And their games cost us money while they degrade the school system, and the futures of all those children who are supposed to have a full chance at learning. So E2ManageTech is out of the picture for a total of over a million dollars? At least they will not be getting their 1/3 of profit from a poorly-thought-out development scheme inflicted upon a community...so there is a upside to this. The payout hurts, but at least we know why these people were here. They were here for money. Big surprise, they were brought in by Ed Brand, right? For him, that is the only motivation, apparently. Thank goodness for all the steady minds on the Bond Oversight Committee, thank goodness for those members of the public who work tirelessly to go after all the grifters and scam artists that populate Sweetwater. We don't need them, we don't want them, we don't want to hear of them again. For all those grifters and scam artists who are still sticking around, you might just want to depart of your own accord, because it will be getting hotter.— September 6, 2014 12:30 p.m.
Pimp hand strong in Chula
Looks like the UT got that one right. Is there anything we can do about it?— September 6, 2014 1:21 a.m.
Sweetwater cash cow improperly milked
Well, not so very off topic...Gandara is now out of prison. Now that we know that the deals were far bigger than what was charged--but nothing is being done about that--I do wonder about the loyalists. Seems to me they still need watching. Judge Espana. Eminently not up to the job.— September 5, 2014 2:22 p.m.

For years I kept wondering why we would see all these photos of Shirley Horton smiling, but yet never hear her say a word. I asked someone who had attended some functions she had also attended while she was the mayor if she was indeed capable of speech. He said that she was a very intelligent person. I said, "Then why doesn't she ever say anything?!" So--I guess she didn't want to offend her backers. This does not bode well for Chula Vista or Sweetwater. Must there always be some sort of iron-clad grip on things here by opportunists and grifters?— September 4, 2014 5:54 p.m.

Calhoun is certainly loyal to all the Brand processes. Why is he so loyal? He must have a belief that Brand is still holding the reins. Or that there are rewards for those who play the Brand game.— September 4, 2014 4:21 p.m.

Hadn't you heard, he is very busy these days trying to change his stripes!!! Hoping that photo ops showing shiny teeth will be enough to carry him into his next office. Talk about an empty suit, but an empty suit just waiting to jump to the next political office. How anyone at the Lincoln Club finds anything of substance in McCann is beyond me--but then that crew has long since abandoned any semblance of political idealism or decency. It is all just perks, inside deals and helping each other out as they hop to their next position, sort of like the old Super Mario Brothers game.— September 4, 2014 4:18 p.m.

Where to begin? Sweetwater (the school district) has turned into Sweetwater (the corporate hodge-podge of failed and failing schemes). How can we extricate the good from the bad, the schools from the encumbrances? When will we get the complete, unvarnished truth about all this? I am sure that Mr. Calhoun is working overtime to justify all sorts of steppingstones in the great vastness of scheme-dom that is Ed Brand's legacy. I am sure there are all sorts of people who would love to make sure that the public never finds out the truth on all this. But many of us are quite sure that what has been taking place in Sweetwater is nothing less than the whole-sale pillaging of a school district. This must end. Those responsible must answer for it. If they continue to band together under some sort of allegiance of thieves, we will continue to chip away at them, relentlessly. The sort of person or persons who willingly steal the futures from our children must be stopped. Education needs to regain a place of honor in Sweetwater, and the schemes of the deluded, grasping and corrupt need to be stopped.— September 4, 2014 9:19 a.m.
Bitter split at San Diego Opera
I keep thinking there is more collusion here, and extremely self-absorbed individuals only acting in their own (perceived) best interests. I also think that some of the board members who resigned are now recognizing that Mr. Campbell took them for a ride, but they aren't ready for a "walk of shame" back to the new SD Opera. Mrs. Cohn's bristlings aside, these board members had to know what they were planning on doing to the entire company was certifiably reprehensible.— September 3, 2014 2:10 p.m.
Bitter split at San Diego Opera
Good question. In this instance, I would go with the IRS being on the side of the good guys, maybe a "pants" role if there is someone out there like Frederika von Stade! Lots of opportunity for stage business then.— September 3, 2014 12:02 p.m.
