Closed for legislation
That makes me interested in learning more. Time to look into this a bit further! Thanks.— September 12, 2014 4:59 p.m.

I really hope that the authorities are looking at Brand's accounts and activities through a powerful electron microscope. That business conning the North County elderly couple out of their $1 million so he could sent worthy students to college---how much went to students? $20,000 at best? The rest--administrative fees and expenses, wasn't it? How many others have their been? Why all the deals? Is it possible there have been some under-the-table arrangements?— September 12, 2014 3:45 p.m.
Trillion troubles
How would he select his victims? Did he have access to some government files?— September 12, 2014 10:48 a.m.

Oddly enough, these are the very same tactics that have been employed by Sweetwater's board of trustees, under Ed Brand! The only conclusion that can be reached is that those entities choosing to limit public commentary via these methods merely implicate themselves in some sort of wrongdoing or corruption. Honest boards should have no need for draconian measures of control. Makes me wonder if there is some sort of private study program for the dishonest politicians and administrators!— September 12, 2014 10:19 a.m.

You have summed things up quite well. Brand must set up the schemes and get people to play their little part...and somehow ensure that no one can or will drop the dime on him (to use an old expression). I sure hope someone starts looking, if they haven't already. But maybe those claims that the Republican Party connection will keep Brand from any sort of investigation or charges are close to the truth?? If that is the case, it sure doesn't say much for the Republican Party. But then they have apparently been supporting McCann via the Lincoln Club. What an unholy mess.— September 10, 2014 3:48 p.m.

Yes, indeed! The man needs to be watched every minute of the day and night. Should be part and parcel of the forensic accounting...because since when was Ed Brand ever caught doing anything honest? Merely a rhetorical question.— September 9, 2014 8:20 p.m.
Bitter split at San Diego Opera
Just want to mention what a great experience it was attending the recital on Friday night. Ailyn Perez and Stephen Costello were fantastic. The crowd was very happy to be there, and it was a great celebration of the reemergence of SD Opera. Hurray and Huzzah! And interestingly, I happened to find out that the SF Opera has an outdoor performance today. If the SF Opera can do it, why can't the SD Opera??? What a great way to bring in more people!— September 7, 2014 2:28 p.m.

Just think of all the wasted money on all the Ed Brand schemes and scams--and think what that money could have done for the students if it had been used in a reasonable manner. It is a total disgrace, and any and all board members who went along with Brand/Gandara/Brand, without fail voting in lock-step--THIS MEANS YOU, CARTMILL AND MCCANN--have shown the world they are not to be trusted. A) Because they were NOT looking out for the best interests of the students and the community; B) Because if they were not smart enough to figure out there were horribly bad deals going on, they should not be trusted anywhere near public funds; C) Because if they had all the inside knowledge and still voted against the students' and the community's best interests, they are liars and scam artists themselves. So--if they didn't know, they are not smart enough to be public servants. If they did know, they are cheats and thieves, and should leave in disgrace, as they have been exposed for what they are.— September 7, 2014 10:58 a.m.

Time for Tom Calhoun and "asset utilization" plans that have nothing to do with students or the school system to go!! Sweetwater should not be in the business of supplying more deals--it just seems to lead to more opportunities for corrupt behavior. Unless someone can prove otherwise...— September 7, 2014 10:05 a.m.
