Sweetwater trustee reports stolen property to police
Here is what I think is behind spending $60,000 on memberships: attending all the meetings and gatherings will give Brand and the board members ample opportunity to continue to solidify their power structure. Additionally, as we know, Brand is continually coming up with schemes of every variety. We know of his history with non-profits that essentially poured donations into his pockets, as the records of disbursing the funds seemed to indicate...I think that it is likely the plan is to use these memberships as hunting grounds for Brand's "charities". In which case, I would hope that all those who are members would be made aware of Brand's history, so that he doesn't tap anyone dry.— June 21, 2013 3:25 a.m.

Sweetwater trustee reports stolen property to police
Well, of course THIS district's board wouldn't want to encourage anything like what is mentioned above! That would mean that they might be forced to do things correctly for a change! Wouldn't want the public to get too educated! Wouldn't want to share knowledge and bring about a sense of community empowerment! Wouldn't want to increase communication and benefit the schools! Wouldn't want to provide a good example for all the students regarding engaging in the political process to contribute to the good of all! Of course Sweetwater would NEVER want to encourage enlightened behavior when it is so much easier for the constituency to remain uninformed, isolated, ignored and ridiculed for being so uninformed and isolated!!! What is this...it is starting to sound familiar...could it be--actual institutional bullying? Why, how could that be? Because the majority of those in charge of education in Sweetwater are without a moral compass, and are in it for themselves. Shocking, isn't it? So little desire on the part of these board members and their leader, Brand, to "fulfill their lawful duties", i.e. doing the right thing. They would rather feed their compulsive, gaping maws--metaphorically and literally speaking--and forget the students completely. Except when it comes to head counts, because that means $.— June 19, 2013 5:11 p.m.

Brand has been so concerned (based upon his compulsion to create schools handling students k - 6 and 13 - 16) with increasing the number of students in this district that he has left all thoughts for those students already here behind. Is he really that afraid of a budget based upon the actual 7 - 12 students that attend school in this district? Because Chula Vista Elementary SD is doing so well with their charter schools... Turf wars, empire building, trying to create new bureaucracies to "lead" (section 11 CIF, multiple 'for profit' institutions)--really, what's with all this expansionist nonsense? Again, compensatory behavior? Overweening need for more of everything? Rather unbalanced...is Mr. Brand. Then we have Mr. McCann, unbalanced in another direction. Seems to have impulse-control problems, anger management problems, judgment problems, coupled with an odd sense of self-righteousness that is definitely unearned. Mr. Cartmill is generally more well-behaved, yet seems caught up in all the chaos like a poor wayfarer in a rudderless ship trying to traverse the maelstrom--if only he could find the oars, he might have a chance. Well, that's about all I have time for today. These individuals are what they are, and we are stuck with working with them until our school board is populated with members capable of honestly working for the good of the students, the schools, the teachers--without robbing the taxpayers and extorting all the contractors. That $60,000 could be spent on better things, but it is being spent to 'grease the wheels' for these board members and Ed Brand. Wouldn't it be great if all of the Chambers of Commerce would return Sweetwater's money and say it would be better spent on the students? That would be righteous.— June 19, 2013 4:58 p.m.

Excellent point. Let's bring back the focus on the work at hand. Putting this school district into the hands of people who are honorable, educated and capable, as opposed to the group now seated.— June 19, 2013 2:59 p.m.
Chula Vista police chief Bejarano to home in on crime spot
Now that John McCann has pulled another stunt (calling the police over his premature campaign sign which was used as a prop at the Monday night school board meeting), taking several patrol cars away from what they were doing at that time, I wonder what Chief Bejarano really thinks. Talk about your dichotomy: people with real problems in their neighborhood, coming together to try and make things better--and then John McCann, "poster boy" for wasted time and effort over what essentially was an illustration of his own bad judgment, thereby exacerbating and underlining his bad judgment. We shouldn't call anyone foolish, but some people call it upon themselves.— June 19, 2013 8:39 a.m.

Petty. Behavior that is not even adolescent...yet again McCann demonstrates poor judgment. This individual simply does not know how to act in a dignified manner. It seems he must resort to threats of higher authority being on his side--fairly typical compensatory behavior, and not indicative of any insight into himself, others or how the public views him. Perspective? What's that to McCann, because he is still the center of his own universe, pre-school mentality personified. Of course, this is just the side-show of the circus of Sweetwater. The light distraction welcomed by Fast Eddy, the ringmaster, because this allows Eddy's smoke and mirror act to gain momentum. Eddy is hoping the public never really figures out what is going on. Sorry to disappoint, but we have over 3000 pages of testimony, and that provides this community with a clear vision of what has been going on here. Ed Brand and his rubber-stamp, Loyal Voting Block board are not to be trusted. As has been said before, the public needs to watch carefully, needs to hold 'feet to the fire', needs to crack down on all the unethical behavior that has been going on. The intolerable behavior will not be tolerated.— June 18, 2013 10:56 p.m.
