Sweetwater superintendent Ed Brand’s Alliant project hits snag
That would be: Arlie Ricasa, Jim Cartmill and John McCann. However, at this time Mr. McCann is recovering from an automobile accident he was in approximately a month ago. There have been no public statements made regarding Mr. McCann's ability to return to his position as a trustee with the school district, merely that a full recovery is expected. This could put Fast Eddy's lock (in terms of projects he wants voted in) in jeopardy, but the Sweetwater board has ruled that ties mean that the vote is passed, not that the vote has failed--unlike every other organization in the history of the free world. With Sweetwater, there are no rules, which is just the way Fast Eddy likes it. Fast and loose, chase the goose, get the goods, rule the hoods, grab the haul, then jump the wall. He has done it before, has Fast Eddy...— August 7, 2013 3:39 p.m.

Sweetwater superintendent Ed Brand’s Alliant project hits snag
Thank goodness for intelligent and prepared professionals doing their duty in National City. Too bad we can't really say the same for Sweetwater Union High School District's leadership and majority board activity.— August 7, 2013 1:20 p.m.
Sweetwater superintendent Ed Brand’s Alliant project hits snag
Let me try and figure this out. Fast Eddy must have promised Alliant a certain number of students, or said there would be 'no problem' getting a certain number of students--say 75 - 100 for the first semester. Then if word of mouth would be good, and the financial freebies flowing, maybe the rate of enrollment would increase so that in a couple of years, Alliant would be 'handling' 2500 students at a time...all with government funding/student loans, (loans which are now higher than they used to be). But several questions have arisen about this venture--the cost, of course. Ability to transfer credits. Actual value of course material, i.e., is Alliant really teaching, or is it a diploma mill? Another large issue is, why replace a cost effective option with a much more expensive option? That is something perhaps only Fast Eddy can answer, as he must somehow be the beneficiary of all this down the road...he never seems to do anything just because it is the right thing to do. One more large question has been brought up--and that is that the National City Adult School was built on land owned by the Transit Authority, and *leased* to the Adult School. Therefore, is Fast Eddy's plan in violation of that lease? Did Fast Eddy bother to check? Or did he think that this entire school district was in the palm of his hand, and could be manipulated mercilessly for his benefit? Are there answers to these questions?— August 6, 2013 6:27 p.m.
Did Manuel Paul illegally burn San Ysidro School District papers?
Very odd circumstances here: former Superintendent allegedly hauling off documents, shredding and burning them for hours at a time. The district employee who reported the irregularities has been placed on administrative leave. These items that have been reported do not make the San Ysidro School District look any better--and I know there are many excellent teachers in that district, as well as hardworking, motivated and smart students. I hope they stay motivated, and that Mr. Paul's reported behavior lapses are confined to him alone. But can someone tell me why the employee who reported Mr. Paul's considerable lapses is the one being placed on leave? Makes it look like they are trying to protect Mr. Paul. Is that the correct course?— August 5, 2013 11:40 p.m.
What am I doing in Eastlake?
Given my chosen moniker, I suppose I should feel somewhat defensive about this article, but it doesn't really bother me. People make all sorts of statements in the attempt to be provocative, make a name for themselves and/or express frustration. Ms. Salaam, if you really want to get to know the people in Eastlake, get involved with the school districts. Volunteer in the schools, serve on the committees, let your voice be heard when it comes to making sure the students are getting what they need from Chula Vista Elementary and Sweetwater Union High School Districts. The more you know, the better your position will be for actually being an active member of the community. Do this and come back to us in a year with what you have learned!— August 1, 2013 4:41 p.m.
After car crash, Sweetwater trustee McCann out of ICU
I certainly hope that both injured parties recover swiftly and completely, and that any public safety issues that may have played into what happened are also looked into. If, for example, there is a question of right-of-way, or sightlines, maybe there are some road enhancements that can be made. But of course, the Sweetwater madness continues apace, not slowing for anything! Mysterious agreements that both exist and do not exist in some amazing display of non-corporeal manifestation followed by an equally amazing dematerialization. Presto! There is an agreement with Alliant University! Yet, when the public wants documents, Chango! There is no agreement! And we, the public, are supposed to believe anything that appears from Mr. Brand's oddly performing assortment of henchmen, spokespeople, attorneys, stand-ins, contract players, substitutes and lackeys. I wish a swift return to health for all involved, but most of all for the Sweetwater Union High School District that has been chronically mishandled for quite some time now. I sincerely hope that the informed public will not have to be disrespected, maligned and dispossessed for much longer. The dissemblings of Mr. Brand and the district continue to add to the disservice being given to this community. Honesty in service, will that ever reappear in Sweetwater UHSD? Abracabra! Will the truth appear?— July 30, 2013 4:18 p.m.
Week in review: Sweetwater Union High School District
So Alliant is positioned as the "fall-back" school for Sweetwater students, ready to grab all the government funding it can get it's hands on. Just wondering, what is in it for Ed Brand. I have to think there is something. Ed doesn't work for nothing, you know.— July 27, 2013 9:59 a.m.

Week in review: Sweetwater Union High School District
Doesn't sound like Sweetwater is getting the better part of the deal. Sounds like Brand is giving away the physical plant, etc. Personally, I am hoping that all the Sweetwater students are smart enough to steer clear of this mess!— July 20, 2013 4:51 p.m.
