Alliant University leaves Sweetwater school district property in National City…sets up at Southwestern College?
There are some who say this has the smell of "bogosity" about it.— August 12, 2013 12:25 p.m.

anniej, you and I know Ed Brand and this board's list of failures of judgment and execution could stretch from here to the moon, and they would still carry on as if nothing was wrong. BECAUSE FOR THE MAJORITY OF THEM, IT IS JUST *'TOO SWEET A GIG'*!! Appeals to conscience, to better judgment, to the future of this district and the students have gone ignored--because, for this group, the power they have, the seats they inhabit, mean too much. They lack integrity, honor, decency and self-examination. If they don't get rid of Brand, we could see some fire and brimstone from the public, all of whom are sick of the lies, the willful stupidity, the hopeless self-serving of Ed Brand, Arlie Ricasa, Jim Cartmill, John McCann and Pearl Quinones. Bertha Lopez, who helped to get the ball rolling on the investigations, has frequently been left out of the loop by the untrusty trustees aforementioned. May the truth be heard, loud, clear and as long as it takes to free us from the contemptible group taking public funds for their own benefit. If, by some miracle, the majority discover their backbones and decide to do something about Ed Brand, that would be great...but I fear that Brand has the goods on most, if not all of them, and is using leverage to get what he wants. Maybe someone will realize there is no time like the present to tell the truth.— August 12, 2013 11:18 a.m.

Not sure how to process these adjacent news items. On the one hand, wow. On the other hand, it is great news when people recover and can return to their responsibilities. Back to the "wow" moment...seems like a situation fraught with complexity and political debts owed/paid. Loads of baggage hiding somewhere. So thankful Mr. McCann is recovering from his accident.— August 11, 2013 7:05 p.m.

Coincidentally, I drove past that location early this morning, and was surprised to see it! Hadn't been aware of the school's existence or its location in Chula Vista. I do not believe that the Star-News has written about it or the U-T--unless I completely missed the stories. What this shows is that the circling sharks of for-profit education are circling with ever-increasing intensity, as this area has so many military people with educational benefits to exploit, as well as all the government grants that are available to the general populace based upon income levels. Which is all the more reason for educating our students and those who want to become students regarding how to get the most from their educational dollar--funneling grant funds to institutions whose first goal is to make payroll is not what we as a community need. We need our students to actually learn, and not end up with meaningless lists of classes taken but no knowledge provided in return.— August 11, 2013 6:55 p.m.

Ok--Setting up shop in a restaurant on Southwestern's campus is a move both bold and desperate. It could easily be characterized as "sheep-stealing", which most people recognize as wrong. It would be different if Southwestern had invited Alliant to give out promotional material to students who were ready to move on from the two-year school. Nervy and odd, does this remind us of anyone? Who acts like this? Who does not recognize normal and reasonable boundaries? And why should someone who is so completely oblivious to the right way of conducting business still be in a position to control vast amounts of public funds and make decisions on the education of the children in this district? Can we get some sort of restraining order on Fast Eddy, as the Board of Trustees can't seem to get him to act in a manner honest, reasonable and judicious?— August 10, 2013 11:26 p.m.

Shall I venture a guess or two? Funding is always a priority with community groups, so I will go out on a limb and say that Fast Eddy probably mentioned that there could be advantages in teaming up. He very well might have said that he is connected with various groups that give out scholarships, which would help all the students that South Bay Community Services is working with. Fast Eddy (in my opinion) used South Bay Community Services to give the impression that he works with the community--when nothing could be further from the truth! Obfuscation, confusion, misinformation, disinformation--a sad example of what we are given to work with in Sweetwater Union High School District. What's worse is that the driving force behind all this hijacking of public education is Fast Eddy's greed--yet unchecked.— August 8, 2013 2:47 p.m.

Excellent thoughts. Wouldn't it be something if such reasoned thinking would be taking place within Sweetwater UHSD and the County Board of Education! Imagine...we could have functional policies and programs, and a system people could depend upon! It will happen, but it will take more time and effort. Meanwhile, thanks for offering hope!— August 7, 2013 3:43 p.m.
