Residential rehab facility opens in Old Town
This is a good step in the right direction. A positive move for the city of San Diego, and a show of support for any who may need it.— February 22, 2014 8:44 a.m.
Sweetwater district meeting marked by chaos
Yes, sometimes the 'gatekeepers' take on the persona of the heads--in a way it a type of self-preservation. They protect those above them from all those unwanted inquiries, and in turn, feel secure in their position. It all helps to create that stonewalling, of which Fast Eddy is so fond. It isn't just CPM, by the way.— February 21, 2014 9:06 p.m.

Any timeline info or speculation?— February 20, 2014 2:18 p.m.
Sweetwater district meeting marked by chaos
Yes, this might be an indication that Mayor Cox does want the position of Superintendent of Sweetwater...and if so, she is really going to have to dig in and show her commitment to bringing an end to "business as usual". We can't rely on promises any more. Look where that has gotten us.— February 20, 2014 2:03 p.m.
Sweetwater district meeting marked by chaos
Yes, but Fast Eddy is mad at them because of the reallocation of dollars about two years back. He really got into a snit over that, yelling at some SWC people and stomping around. So he is not willing to pay them any fees for use of the stadium, as he is that petty and vindictive...when this was a state of California decision! But Fast Eddy takes money very personally, and when I say that, I mean it in every possible way.— February 20, 2014 2:01 p.m.
Sweetwater district meeting marked by chaos
Absolutely. Brand has completely lost touch with what his responsibilities really are, because he is so focused on "churning" the educational dollars into revenue streams for himself and all his friends. We really need to dig into his finances, as I am sure he has been--at the very least--skimming from the district for quite some time.— February 19, 2014 8:29 p.m.
Sweetwater district meeting marked by chaos
Yes, Ed Brand makes his own rules, because his ego surpasses all legal, moral and ethical boundaries. What a mess. Cartmill and McCann lack the wherewithal to stand for anything--despite McCann's frequent self-appointment as Mr. Ethics. Merely because he has been the single unindicted elected member of the school board. I guess that is an accomplishment of sorts, but why not actually do something, McCann? Cartmill must be hogtied by something. What is it? That $50,000 loan from Ed Brand a few years back? Is that enough to buy loyalty for all time? What is in it for Ed Brand to rent out Sleep Train Amphitheater? My guess is that Brand is still angry regarding funding that went to Southwestern College when the state decided to reorganize some of the training funds--so he is not willing to send any money in Southwestern's direction. There are no higher ideals with Ed Brand. It is money, payback, scheming and dishonesty, all the way. Can we please get rid of this walking excrescence, before he enriches himself further at our expense, while he continues to damage the school system we are trying to protect?— February 19, 2014 1:06 p.m.
Castle Park Middle School principal punches back!!
And you would think that there would be a professional organization that would want to keep the standards up--not allow highway robbery to take place under the cover of education!— February 16, 2014 2:03 p.m.
Castle Park Middle School principal punches back!!
I heard there was a new book (soon to be published) called "Muscling In On Education, or How to Apply Bullying Tactics to Work the System". Oddly, the author or authors have decided to remain anonymous until such time as they can be assured that no one will use the tactics on themselves--because it only works if everyone else plays according to the rules! Some names have been thrown around regarding the authorship--"the usual suspects", one might say--with the goal in mind having absolutely nothing to do with educating the students, but instead all about grabbing as much of the educational dollar as can be diverted from the traditional categories. Much of it details the importance of developing auxiliary organizations that support the 'leaders', (a la the National Socialist rise to power, curiously), so that the community will feel overwhelmed and unable to continue resisting the power play(s). Under present circumstances, I would not be at all surprised if this little number did not become a hit! (At least in the circles where education is not so much an ideal as it is something to be exploited). For those who still feel that education should be universally publically available and should prepare students for several pathways through life (college prep, hands on learning, entry level job prep, etc.) as each student might need, I can only say that the "Muscling In" Group will undoubtedly do all they can to ensure that students (and their parents) will end up paying more and more for the privilege of attending public schools, so that all their friends can be assured of having cushy jobs for life! Those cushy jobs, of course, are never really measurable, usually end up being at least $100,000/year and with the approval of Fast Eddy's signature, are usually increased via bonuses! What a deal! What a scam! What a shame!— February 16, 2014 1:39 p.m.
County board of education occupies Sweetwater
Who is running the clock? The final countdown must have begun by now...so--another million down the drain for Sweetwater? But, of course, what is one more million, when OFFICIALLY Sweetwater is $10 million in the hole, but unofficially, who can say--it could easily be $100 million plus in the hole. No wonder Ed Brand and the Sweetwater Board of Trustees are so confident! The County Board of Education must be their bestie, because they have never overexerted themselves when it came to handling the Beast of Sweetwater. The adage "Give them enough rope and they will hang themselves" does not appear to work in this instance, County Board of Education! Sweetwater just thinks you approve of all their activities. So what is it? No backbone or intelligence at the County Board of Education? Hands are tied? No room for taking action? No one sent the engraved invitation? All out of calling cards? Driver unavailable? Formal dress at the cleaners? What? What's the excuse?— February 12, 2014 1:49 p.m.
