Eric Nelson: Apparently you missed the words "the late David Copley" in the comment. Of course I know about his death. I knew him personally and wrote a lot about him -- his lifestyle, his yacht and yacht parties, etc. He had had a heart transplant earlier. I wrote about that, too. danfogel: As you know, the column was about the economics of supporting a major pro sports team. However, you make a good point. Many people -- not just in the Riverside-San Bernardino market -- go to minor league games. It's cheaper; the crowds are smaller; the parking is not a problem; children enjoy such games because of these factors. Best, Don Bauder

aardvark: The staggering statistic is that the city of San Diego is 122nd out of 150 U.S. cities in median salary adjusted for cost of living. That number comes from WalletHub, which also gives reliable numbers on how debt (credit card and mortgage) is so high related to family income. The group wanting to put a pro soccer team in San Diego should study those numbers. This is both a city and metro area whose income/cost of living squeeze is debilitating. San Diego attracting another NFL football team, adding a NHL and NBA team -- forget it. Best, Don Bauder

dwbat: Enormous sums of money definitely offset other personal problems. However, I can tell you, after 54 years of business/financial reporting, that the ultra-rich never quit chasing money. It is a disease. Have you ever heard of a financial money-chaser who ever retired? They chase money until they are dead. A person worth $25 billion may become clinically depressed when some other billionaire takes him or her for $1 million. Best, Don Bauder

Visduh: Clearly, Lynch has been living beyond his means for several years. I agree: the intelligent thing for him to do would be to downsize his lifestyle, getting out from under his home (that would provide cash), and live a more modest life.
