don bauder Well put. Let me refer back to the questions in my previous comment. If the Chargers move to Los Angeles, or anywhere else for that matter, and in succeeding years manage to win a Super Bowl, it would no be the San Diego Chargers winning the Super Bowl. As to my second question, where ever the Chargers end up playing, as long as the Spanos clan controls the purse strings, I don't think that they will spend the money on the players they need for long term success. I believe that they are about middle pack in the salary cap, but about 25 percent of there payroll is tied up in just 3 players, Rivers, Gates and Weddle, all of whom are unresricted free agents after this season. That's a long way of saying that no, as long as the Chargers are in San Diego and continue to be controlled by the Spanos clan, they will not win a Super Bowl.— August 6, 2015 6:34 p.m.

don bauder Wasn't Bennett involved with the Redskins when Jack Cooke Kent was the owner? I believe at the time Cooke also owned the Lakers and the Kings and built the Forum. I know that Jerry Buss bought Forum, Kings and Lakers in from Cooke in 1979, so I think that by the time the Redskins won their first Superbowl, Cooke was majority owner of the Redskins and Williams owned something like a 10 percent stake. I'm not sure when Cooke got Williams' share but I believe he was the sole owner by the time the Redskins won their second Superbowl, which I remember all to well.— August 5, 2015 3:06 p.m.

twister Several years ago, Anheuser-Busch InBev started brewing Beck's meant for US consumption in St. Louis. A couple of months ago, a preliminary settlement was reached with a group that sued, claiming deceptive labeling was used to mislead customers into believing the Beck's beer sold in the U.S. was made in Germany. I also believe that since at least the beginning of the year, Beck's sold in the UK is being brewed in the UK. Apparently, nothing is sacred anymore.— August 5, 2015 11:46 a.m.

dwbat Please accept my most humblest of apologies. Because of the indention of your comment under my previous comment, rather than a new comment, I presumed it to be an additional response to said previous comment. I do know that San Diego has, or at least had, regulations for products made in cottage food operations, but one could guess that that they would not maintain separate packaging requirements for the other food types in the discussion. Simple logistics. How many companies would absorb the expense of producing special packaging intended only for San Diego county which different than the remainder of California and most of the country. As for state regulations for labeling requirements, unless something has changed recently, the Food and Drug branch of the CDPH defers to federal guidelines meaning that the majority of foods do not require dating.— August 5, 2015 8:50 a.m.

dwbat, But again, we were taking about unopened, packaged food, not prepared restaurant food. It was specifically yogurt. Except for infant formula, product dating is not generally required by Federal regulations. A sell by date or a best buy date are not expiration dates. They don't indicate spoilage. Except for "use-by" dates, product dates don't always pertain to home storage and use after purchase. Use-by dates usually refer to best quality and are not safety dates and that date has been determined by the manufacturer of the product. Even if the date expires during home storage, a product should be safe, wholesome and of good quality if handled properly. Foods can develop an off odor, flavor or appearance due to spoilage bacteria, and in such a case, you should not use it for quality reasons. Again, a little common sense. A sell by date that's largely meant for use by retailers. It tells the store how long to display the product for sale and you should buy the product before the date expires. Again, feel free to follow your own path. I am not gambling with my health, just using common sense.— August 4, 2015 4:03 p.m.
