Senator wanted pressure on Mitsubishi for failed reactor
Yeah, it must have been that pesky old word "nuclear" that got to you. SONGS didn't/doesn't have "nuclear generators". Instead, pressurized water reactor were used. The "nuclear" part is the nuclear fuel in the reactor vessel. The nuclear fission process heats water in the primary coolant loop then the hot coolant is pumped into a heat exchanger called, wait for it, a STEAM generator. The coolant evaps into steam, which turns a steam turbine which drives an ELECTRICAL generator, which produces electricity. A little simplified, but that's how it works. No "nuclear generator", only a steam and electric generator.— November 28, 2015 8:06 a.m.
Polite as F**k
Carmel is barely 1 square mile in size and has less than 4000 residents. How the F**k would you ever expect San Diego to offer a quality of life like that of Carmel??— October 31, 2015 9:59 a.m.
Edison's "recent discovery" of revealing documents
Riverside County is NOT involved with SONGS. It's the City of Riverside. Riverside Public Utilities has a 1.79 percent, non-operating co-ownership of SONGS. Riverside’s utility has already put money in a trust fund, $79 million based on what I have read, for expenses and costs related to the plant’s closing.— October 21, 2015 5:51 p.m.

I believe that the property is reassessed when the last of the original trustees dies and the estate is distributed per terms of the trust.— August 27, 2015 9:32 p.m.
Less than two years for swiping $1 million
Fiorina got shoved out because she sucked at her job. She refused to give division heads the operating authority they needed, revenue dropped precipitously, HP started losing market share to IBM and Dell even after an initial gain after the merger with Compaq and the stock tanked, losing about half of it's value from the time she took over. Dick Hackborn had doubts about her from the very start and finally was able to get the rest of the board to give her the sack.— August 26, 2015 10:21 p.m.

don bauder I too have read of some notions of the politicos wanting to tamper with Prop 13, as you put it. Prop 13 is part of the California Constitution, Article XIII A. Both an amendment or a revision of the state constitution require passage of a California ballot proposition by voters. There are 2 different ways to actually get a proposition or revision on the ballot, either by a two-thirds vote in the California State Legislature or signatures equal to 8% of the votes cast in the last gubernatorial election, but both still require passage by the voters. I don't see voters getting rid of Prop 13 and in the event that legislators would try and circumvent the constitutionally mandated process, I'm sure the result would be a lawsuit taking years that probably would end up being settled by SCOTUS.— August 26, 2015 9:57 p.m.

Yes, Prop 13 can be "passed along" to heirs. Article XIII A of the California State Constitution was enacted as Proposition 13. Prop 58, approved by voters in 1986 broadened the circumstances in California under which property tax re-assessments on the transfer of real property between parents and children can be excluded from reassessment and Prop 193, approved by voters in 1993, did the same for grandparents and grand children. Also, most people are probably not aware that Prop 13 was also amended about 5 years ago to prohibit tax assessors from re-evaluating any new construction for property tax purposes when the point of the new construction is to seismically retrofit an existing building.— August 26, 2015 9:41 p.m.
Compost Workshop -- 09/26/15 at Spring Valley Youth & Family Coalition, 3845 Spring Drive, Spring Valley
So when I leave the workshop, I can go home and start my own backyard composting without having to buy anything?? Sounds almost too good to be true!— August 20, 2015 11:20 a.m.
Small, local businesses on notice
I don't understand why someone would by anything from a farmer's market in a "brown paper bag". If you can't choose your own, then just keep walking. Only seems like common sense to me.— August 20, 2015 11:12 a.m.
