Hot, cold, and thick: SDSO
And another brief piece of advice, if you want to hear Mahler #5 go on Saturday or Sunday so that you can also attend Concerto Koeln (Vivaldi, Handel and Telemann) on Friday (Irwin M. Jacobs Qualcomm Hall at 8pm). This is also a concert not to be missed.— October 30, 2012 10:20 a.m.
Weekend Preview
Another big kid on the block is Quatuor Mosaiques on Monday at the Neurosciences Institute (8pm) with also Haydn (op 20/3), Mozart ("Hunt" string quartet) and Beethoven op 135 (www.sdems.org). It is a unique opportunity to compare -in such a short period of time- one of the greatest string quartet performing on period instruments with one of the greatest on modern instruments. It could give a lot of insight to the curious listener on what historically informed performances (hip) are about.— April 12, 2012 4:05 p.m.
Concerts This Weekend
Thanks for mentioning the SDEMS concert with baroque cellist Tanya Tomkins, but for the sake of accuracy I'd like to add that she will be playing only 3 of the 6 suites, namely Nr2 in D minor, Nr3 in C Major and Nr6 in D Major.— January 11, 2012 5:11 p.m.
