What am I doing in Eastlake?
Been here since I was 13. my 'loss for words' - I believe it paints many Eastlakers to be rather shallow - and the many friends and family I have that are Eastlakers are far, far from shallow.— August 3, 2013 10:18 a.m.

shirleyberan - while we are in the midst of the trials, we must remember the many good things about SUHSD. Let us even go so far as commend Mr. Cartmill for not squelching the publics right to free speech. In truth he could have gone as far as limiting Public Comment - HE HAS NOT!. Sit there, as uncomfortable as it must be sometimes, look at the speaker and pay attention to the publics comments - HE DOES!— August 2, 2013 7:50 p.m.

oskidoll - it is indeed most sad that those who are employed at SUHSD would be of the opinion that working conditions at the District office and for the District are such that they would worry about such things. It is a well documented fact that there are many levels of outstanding employees - office staff, gardeners, teachers, most Administrators and athletic mentors - just to name a few. In my opinion, and I have stated it many times, the problem can be laid at the feet of the Superintendent. The controversies - how many can be traced back to the Super? I continue to question WHY 'some' on the board fail to address the run away train. 2014 will be this communities year - we will take on the work of forest firemen by removing the decaying wood, we will pull out the dead brush and once again find what has been buried - EVERYTHING that is great about Sweetwater. united effort - this time around the education of the voters, paramount. The movement is growing, organizing, preparing. No longer will the take back be lead by those few - the splinter groups are much larger in numbers, their email lists Wow!!!!! Then of course we have the truth on our side - 'the largest case of corruption in San Diego City or County history'- and the trials begin early next year. oskidoll, the bottles of apple cider will be popping all over the District once those who have chosen to use vs serve are gone!!!!!!!!— August 2, 2013 1:45 p.m.

montana64 - i simply can not fathom ANYONE being that stupid. With all that is going on in the news - it would be position suicide for ANYONE to attempt to manipulate ANYTHING about this issue.— August 1, 2013 9:18 p.m.

oneoftheteachers - the police report will SAY IT ALL! Doubt if district ee knew it was Mr. McCann that was other driver involved - and he most likely gave his statement at the scene or at the hospital.— July 31, 2013 4:50 p.m.

shirleyberan - or perhaps I read it wrong. No harm, no foul. Interesting questions- my opinion - auto insurance of person at fault would pay. Hopefully which ever person was at fault had a quality insurance. Hopefully, it was simply an accident. Both parties are blessed to be alive, it was indeed a MAJOR accident - devastating for both parties I am sure.— July 31, 2013 3:48 p.m.

shirleyberan - of all of the descriptions that COULD be, have been, used to describe me - 'chosen few' is fortunately not one of them. I do NOT, have NOT ever - worked for SUHSD.— July 31, 2013 1:11 p.m.

shirleyberan - I recently received a telecon from an unnamed Administrator in the District office. A very pleasant intelligent young man who had been asked to call me and answer a question I had regarding Alliant. During the conversation this 'unnamed' person 'challenged' me so to speak. He spoke of the many positives of SUHSD - and he is right there are MANY MANY positives about SUHSD. Let us begin with the students - a sampling of those students were represented at the last board meeting - many acknowledgements handed out to several groups of students - CONGRATS to them! The majority of the teachers - like 99.9% of them. Persons who have become stewards of education, many finding themselves buried in 20+ years of large debt who have chosen to mentor youth in helping them to be all they can be - (personally I could not teach in today's reality - I am from a time when children had civil rights only when they were paying their own way. When teachers, police officers etc were respected and greeted with Sir or Mam - I remember several years ago calling my local principle to raise a concern about a lack of a dress code. I was told we can not enforce a dress code, it would be against their civil rights). Many of the Administrators - who are caught between a rock and a hard place - just wanting to do their job yet dealing with the reality of the stressful politics of 'playing the game' AND the reality of having a mortgage to pay. The bus drivers, the gardeners, the plumbers, the electricians, the IT personnel - they keep our schools running. The unions, their efforts to keep the playing field fair for those they represent - having said that I do believe there is room for growth and negotiation in the unions representation - as a grandparent, as a person who put 10 children thru this district, as a taxpayer I find it ludicrous that the remaining .9 of the 99.9% I referenced above are protected at all costs. What have I forgotten, ah yes the Super - let us remember he is OUR (the taxpayers) employee, we pay his salary and so WE ARE HIS BOSSES - alas, he has forgotten that fact, as has the majority of the Board. Soooo, what I was attempting to do with my defense comment about the potential Ed Brand did not know initially that the other driver was a SUHSD employee was to be fair.— July 31, 2013 10:47 a.m.
