Combined convention center/stadium? Or neither?
Right now (as has been the case for a number of years), the only thing L.A. or the City of Industry is good for is leverage that existing NFL teams can use against those team's current cities in negotiations for multi-million dollar remodels or complete rebuilds of their current facilities. Spanos will not move to the L.A. area as long as the people who would control those stadium locations (AEG and Roski) want a piece of the team. Spanos is not willing to part with any of it. It is time for the city and the Chargers to produce the stadium plan--not the one that shows a drawing of a stadium that looks a great deal like Qwest Field in Seattle--but a real plan including financing; specifically who is paying for what and how much exactly. Then, it needs to go on the ballot. If it would be such a great deal for the city, the Chargers can make a pitch with the REAL numbers that would be needed to build it. I, for one, don't think it will work, as the city will be on the hook for the majority of the cost. As far as the convention center expansion goes, as David said above, not interested.— September 6, 2013 12:55 p.m.
Teenage grocery worker files complaint over union dues
Mickey the Bat isn't going to be very happy about this.— September 6, 2013 9:31 a.m.
Aguirre: "Put essentials first and wants second."
I am more inclined to vote for Aguirre than I ever was for Filner. Aguirre is annoying because the so-called powerbrokers downtown see him as a threat, even though they will pretend his campaign doesn't even exist.— September 4, 2013 11:08 p.m.
Aguirre: "Put essentials first and wants second."
Aguirre in the race will, IMO, force a runoff, as no one will get 50%+1 of the vote.— September 4, 2013 11:05 p.m.
Aguirre wants secure water supply, lower electric rates, infrastructure upgrade
As long as Fletcher is in the race, I fear Aguirre doesn't have a chance. Doesn't mean I won't vote for him, however.— September 4, 2013 4:47 p.m.
Bird’s eye view of KGB Sky Show
Many years at least one of those platform lifts remain burning after the show. A few years ago, once they lowered the platform to the ground, they had to bring in a fire truck to use enough water to put it out.— September 2, 2013 10:45 p.m.
Dodgers beat Padres again
Hell--just use the same story for Sunday's game; just change a few of the names. Talk about a team stumbling to the finish...— September 1, 2013 5:27 p.m.
Aguirre wants secure water supply, lower electric rates, infrastructure upgrade
To me, he has his priorities in the wrong order. Infrastructure must be first, then water supply, then electric rates. Infrastructure would be the easiest one to deal with that is under city control. He would need much help with getting a secure source of water. SDG&E (in my mind) would be the toughest of all. I do agree with him on his take about expanding the convention center and building a new stadium (at huge city expense).— August 30, 2013 9:30 p.m.
Hueso, Emerald reconfirm statements on DeMaio behavior
Pat--I would love to call B.S. on this, but it was so well written, I just can't. It actually makes sense. I guess I should never run for office, as it would get out that I was suspended from 6th grade for calling someone a bad name, and my political career would be over before it started. Oops--DAMN, I just sabotaged my own political career. Oh well...— August 30, 2013 9:24 p.m.
Todd Gloria wields the ax, firing most of Filner staff
I personally liked Aguirre as city attorney (while I hated Filner as mayor--go figure). Aguirre running for mayor intrigues me...— August 30, 2013 9:03 p.m.
