San Diego stadium, convention center lies you will hear
Don: I'm not sure if the Chargers want to move to LA, but many of their fans come from the LA area (and the OC). Another team moving there scares the crap out of the Chargers, and it also takes away a great deal of leverage to be used as a threat of moving.— September 29, 2014 9:10 p.m.

Don: I have a friend who works the corporate boxes at Qualcomm, and she tells me that those boxes are being redone from top to bottom. Any idea how we find out who is footing the bill for this?— September 29, 2014 8:58 p.m.

Don: It is a wreck--but it is part of the city's infrastructure backlog. Unfortunately, I fear that Qualcomm Stadium is quietly moving up the list of infrastructure projects. And the streets, water distribution and other city infrastructure will continue to crumble. As much as I would love the city to fix-up the Q, it just isn't a priority.— September 29, 2014 6:55 p.m.
Manchester's immodest Burnham buildup
Wow--a legend. In his own mind.— September 29, 2014 3:53 p.m.

The Chargers can propose to "grab" whatever land they want, but the city can't give them the land--but they can buy it (after the city voters allow the city to sell it per the city charter). Of course, if a new stadium were such a profitable venture, the Chargers would have purchased the 60 acres they wanted over 10 years ago and built their own stadium and ancillary development with all the private money they claimed to have waiting in the wings.— September 28, 2014 8 p.m.

Don: You mean kind of like, "ignore it, and it might go away"?— September 28, 2014 1:40 p.m.
San Diego stadium, convention center lies you will hear
Don: I have, and we will soon hear them again.— September 27, 2014 9:47 p.m.

Perhaps he will. Moreno has a higher net worth than the Spanos family, and with the property available in both Tustin and Irvine, he might just do it himself. Of course, we will see if Moreno can somehow get Tustin or Irvine to "sweeten the pot" a bit.— September 27, 2014 9:45 p.m.
San Diego stadium, convention center lies you will hear
Don: I have spent many days and nights there with the Padres (before they moved to Petco Park) and the Aztecs. The city didn't even wait until Alex uttered for the first time that he wasn't satisfied with the last expansion and wanted a new stadium, as the city had already stopped maintaining the place. All the city ever did was mainly just add seats and boxes--the original infrastructure was just added to with the new stuff. And besides, I don't remember, but didn't Bruce Henderson claim that the so-called $70 million expansion really cost over $120 mil? He claimed the extra costs were hidden in the city budget, and as a former councilmember, he knew what to look for in the budget and where.— September 26, 2014 9:38 p.m.

Don: I know they don't, you know they don't, and more importantly, the owners know they don't.— September 26, 2014 9:30 p.m.
