Filner did all the right things the wrong way
Don: With Fletcher, his party affiliation should just be left blank. I would think his affiliation could change based on the direction of the wind that day.— July 29, 2013 9:43 a.m.
Filner did all the right things the wrong way
Don: I just can't believe this could have been pre-planned, but you have more connections in this town than a little old aardvark has. If your theory is proven to be correct, I would really be concerned about the Democrat party in this town. I personally already am concerned about the Dems--my affiliation will be changing from Democrat before the next election.— July 28, 2013 10:22 p.m.
Filner did all the right things the wrong way
Don: I can agree with most everything you said, except the sentence stating that it almost seemed like it was pre-planned. His enemies (and colleagues) did have this in their back pocket, but that is not their fault--that is on Filner. If Filner had not done these things, the micromanaging style is all people could go after, and that alone would have never been enough to get him out of office. He could have at least survived his first term. Now, I think he'll be lucky to survive his first year.— July 28, 2013 8:58 a.m.
Bankrupt Detroit to subsidize hockey arena for billionaire
4 times it was voted down, I believe.— July 26, 2013 11:01 p.m.
Bankrupt Detroit to subsidize hockey arena for billionaire
Detroit is MANY billions of dollars in debt. San Diego isn't there--yet. All the things certain people in San Diego want to build--stadium, arena, convention center expansion, host Olympics, etc., along with our own pension issues, could get us to a loftier debt level.— July 26, 2013 6:34 p.m.
Bankrupt Detroit to subsidize hockey arena for billionaire
It gets even better. Washington DC, already on the hook for the $611 million Nationals Park, has committed with soccer club DC United to build a new $300 mil soccer-specific stadium. The city has to pick up roughly half of that cost--the dreaded "public-private partnership". A 20-25,000 seat soccer stadium. For $300 mil. Damn.— July 26, 2013 5:18 p.m.
Laura Fink's campaign role with Todd Gloria
Don: I haven't seen anything from her the last few days. I would have thought she would have been defending her "Strong mayor Filner" (her words, not mine). Could it be that she has also seen enough, or is she just taking a break from the circus? I don't often agree with her, but she almost always has strong, thought-out ideas.— July 26, 2013 4:38 p.m.
Bankrupt Detroit to subsidize hockey arena for billionaire
ImJustABill--Tragically, it is serious. After all, what's a few hundred million more when you are already many BILLIONS of dollars in debt?— July 26, 2013 4:31 p.m.
Bankrupt Detroit to subsidize hockey arena for billionaire
Don: Of course a new stadium, ballpark, arena will help the economy. Look at Petco Park. Oh, wait, that's not a good example.— July 26, 2013 3:59 p.m.
Laura Fink's campaign role with Todd Gloria
Don: Is this one of the "benefits" of the "strong mayor" system?— July 26, 2013 2:24 p.m.
