Good weather, high cost of living make San Diego bad for pro sports
Whoever wins the vote--assuming someone does--the current stadium will stand just long enough to build a replacement facility, then it will come down. Quickly.— February 21, 2018 4:58 p.m.
Good weather, high cost of living make San Diego bad for pro sports
Don: They could win the vote, but still not have a team. It will be interesting to see what happens if they win the vote if they aren't awarded a team, as they claim the land reverts back to the city if they don't get a team (assuming the SDSU West initiative doesn't pass). Also, if they don't get a team and both initiatives pass, does FSI just walk away like they said they would, and would the land then revert to SDSU West?— February 21, 2018 3:05 p.m.
Good weather, high cost of living make San Diego bad for pro sports
Don: FSI doesn't give a damn about soccer. But they do like that plot of land in Mission Valley.— February 21, 2018 12:32 p.m.
Good weather, high cost of living make San Diego bad for pro sports
There used to be four. High Desert folded a few years ago.— February 21, 2018 12:31 p.m.
Good weather, high cost of living make San Diego bad for pro sports
The NFL is not coming back here any time soon. Anyone who thinks they are coming back is delusional. I could see a new arena built here, but I think it would be downtown. But only if it is built privately. Regarding Riverside/San Bernardino; they have problems supporting minor league sports, with the exception of hockey in Ontario.— February 21, 2018 9:39 a.m.
Doshay family agreed to pay $500,000
Last I checked, the elder Doshay was still a member of Padres ownership.— February 19, 2018 11:32 p.m.
Tronc planning to sell L.A. Times and Union-Tribune
Don: The building has been undergoing interior remodelling for months, but I don't know what it will eventually become.— February 7, 2018 10:41 a.m.
The ol' annual Super Bowl shakedown
Don: Wasn't Horton Plaza already failing even before Petco Park opened in 2004?— February 5, 2018 12:17 p.m.
The ol' annual Super Bowl shakedown
Those are the two big ones. There have been many others. I believe there has been about three or four others--in the same spot directly across the street from where the Tilted Kilt used to be--that have all gone belly up. I also think that address is again empty.— February 5, 2018 11:47 a.m.
The ol' annual Super Bowl shakedown
Don: I would really like to see just how many "social establishments" have come and gone in the East Village since the opening of Petco Park. I'm sure they all thought they could make a killing. Instead, their business got killed. Some went quickly, and some lasted years, but many have come and gone.— February 4, 2018 10:04 p.m.
