John Kaheny defends rising pensions in San Diego
Thanx for naming the names. The ONLY reason I have for seeing our City Attorney not getting re-elected is that I know some people who just might have a job for him... something that Mike might like.— November 4, 2008 11:39 p.m.
Because of Computer Problems, I Have Not Been Able to Respond to Your Posts for a Week. I Hope to Resume Soon.
Shhh... ;-)— November 4, 2008 11:18 p.m.
Effin Effigy
There's a lesson here: If you ever want to hang an effigy in front of your house, just call it a piñata... Not-so-true story: the piñata scene in Napoleon Dynamite.— October 31, 2008 1:09 p.m.
San Diego Lead Indicators Plunge from Year Ago; All Local Components Down
I'm assuming this is a sign that it's time to do some real long-run planning. From a systemic viewpoint, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to pack billions of billions into the abyss without some serious adjustment of attitudes on the part of those firm leaders who are enjoying the fruits of lobbying untouchable Washington incumbents for bailouts. Without that attitude adjustment, all we should expect is a bigger bubble bursting with more of that 100-year-disaster splatter pattern in another decade or less, like we are still seeing with certain credit default swaps needing to be paid off.— October 30, 2008 10:39 p.m.
Chula Vista Gag Order
We can't claim to be a functioning democracy unless people make the effort to get involved. There sure seems to be some popular involvement here! It is unfortunate that it often takes the threat of legal action to get most politicians to look at things without seeing them through some developer's eyes. On the other hand, the peaceful removal of a politician who has reached an obvious level of incompetence seems to reflect on a culture better than hosting a real pitchfork-and-lit-torches revolution.— October 26, 2008 9:53 p.m.
Outreach? More Like Outrage!
While the City of San Diego may feel "desalinization of ocean water is a waste of money", it won't be too long before large private developers are doing it in bulk off-shore and hauling in their liquid gold to us thirsty ones who haven't figured out how to distill it from sea water on our own. Where IS the Spanos family when we really need it? Or do we want our thirst slackened by Manchester et al? Only divine intervention can help us if a certain "arrogant" local public utility figures out that we are a captive market for this...— October 15, 2008 1:50 p.m.
None
Do these business opportunities have any permit or licensing requirements mandated by the San Diego Police Department? Would any inclusion under the micro-enterprise statutes under California law be useful for avoiding local licensing requirements, if any?— October 15, 2008 1:39 p.m.
Ben Bernanke, Henry Paulson prepare for bank bailout
Re: #4... Maybe I'm biased, but Maria Bartiromo, Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, Trish Regan, Erin Burnett and others are at least informatively tackling the market issues and asking the kind of on-air questions that make the women on the View seem like a step backwards for gender-specific empowerment.— October 15, 2008 1:27 p.m.
Olive fruit fly invades San Diego orchards
Regarding ornamental olive trees, the University of California's integrated pest management website recommends using a plant growth regulator applied directly to flowers, causing them to fall off prematurely. This should help to prevent a fruit fly maggot infestation and at least locally interrupt their life cycle as an undesirable pest. Agricultural growers would be appreciative. Ben Bernanke, Henry Paulson prepare for bank bailout
On a deeper reader of the above article, I might suspect that Mr. Bauder has leafed through the recent SEDC perfomrnace audit at http://www.sandiego.gov/auditor/pdf/sedcauditrepo… regarding the lack of external controls on internal chaos. The similarities are eerie... like the re-telling of an old ghost story right before Halloween!— October 15, 2008 12:29 p.m.
