Lynn Hubbard III filed, 2000 lawsuits in the past ten years in California
Whether intended or not, the Americans with Disabilities Act has a long reach against existing businesses that were in compliance with local and state zoning laws before the federal act was passed. Whether intended or not, a business owner who was once law-abiding but is now not in compliance with ADA might just look at the current state of the economy, shut her or his doors, and move to the sunny islands of the South Pacific. Whether intended or not, there may be a lot of otherwise employable persons with disabilities who end up home alone waiting on a government entitlement check because many neighborhood small businesses have left town. Whether intended or not, ADA favors Internet-based commerce as a website is only as good as any individual's own computer is at handling one's disability, whereas a brick&mortar store front can't just rebuild on command when there's no credit to be had.— December 30, 2009 1:07 p.m.
The End of Citrus Heights - Lemon Grove?
RE FBI Lab results: According to the first person who's made the FOI request to FBI, documents are being recalled from storage and copied for her now. I am assuming that she's mostly asked for the Nick Vent photos that Penny Weir (her name then) testified to as prosecution exhibits on June 5-7, 2007. People who don't want to pay Hall of Justice or FOI copying fees for the mentioned BULK SAMPLE ANALYSIS REPORTS can see copies of the 1998, 1999 Ninyo & Moore, and "9-7-2000" lab results (made available to Sempra Energy and SDG&E before the botched demolition job began) at http://eghvsdge.stickywebs.com/oppmemo/ Actually, there's a whole lot more available there and in the parent directory, but it takes a whole lot more time to digest it all. It'll all remain available for at least the next decade or more as a service to any EGH victims who come down with mesothelioma. http://www.google.com/search?q=encanto+gas+holder…— December 30, 2009 12:06 p.m.
Taxpayer-Financed Stadiums Bring "Municipal Woes," says NY Times
RE #33: "If we can't come up with a new culture to fight back against the Judas culture, if we can't come up with a new culture to restore the legacy that Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson gave us along with millions of U.S. Military Heroes and Patriots who sacrificed their lives ever since, then we will lose all that is left of the acceptable quality of life in America we had before the end of the 20th century." My thoughts on that belong in a blog of its own.— December 30, 2009 8:47 a.m.
The Bee Blog
By the age of ten or so, most kids know from bitter experience that it's hard to win a war with a bee hive - and attacking a wasp nest is like taking on the Death Star at Full Power - Fully Operational. Good thing you or your brother thought of using the family armored vehicle. Most kids aren't that resourceful.— December 30, 2009 1:15 a.m.

RE #115: And what about the failed SEDC-consultant-led recall effort against Tony Young after he called for Carolyn Smith's ouster? The "simply whores for the developers" tag might actually apply at SEDC as well, no?— December 29, 2009 11:13 a.m.
Local Home Values Down 37.9% from Peak
Apparently, San Diego was one of only 7 cities in the 20-city survey to see home values rise in November, compared to 19 of 20 only two months earlier (http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20091229-7052…). I'll go out on a limb and say that there might be a fall in San Diego home prices in February, a month or so after credit card invoices are mailed out that account for holiday shopping... as if I know anything about real estate!— December 29, 2009 10:51 a.m.
Taxpayer-Financed Stadiums Bring "Municipal Woes," says NY Times
RE #16: Your comments make me very leery of the San Diego Foundation and its efforts to poll the public on urban development trends going forward for the next several decades. Finding out who exactly is funding SDF is not the easiest thing to do, but I'd bet Matt Potter would recognize more than a few names off of SDF's 2008 annual report. As for the poll itself, wouldn't that be dandy for the developer crowd to have some slick-looking document that purports to have all of us properly statistically analyzed and categorized on our approvals for more development, plus or minus a few percentage points...— December 28, 2009 2:12 p.m.
Kids Should Serve Adult Time For Adult Crimes
It would be wonderful if kids were just kids and let us adults do the stupidly adult things we often do to each other. When I was a kid, all we wanted to do together was earn our way into marching in the Rose Parade in '74 & '76. Go, Mt. Miguel Marching Matadors!— December 24, 2009 11:49 a.m.

Cheese and beer in Wisconsin. The leftovers of an Enron commodities unit in charge of San Diego's franchised power utility. Man, that's a hard choice when it comes to knowing where to live. Maybe it's a good thing for the local tax assessor that man does not live on cheese and beer alone! If one from Wisconsin thinks there are no down-to-earth people here in Enron-by-the-Sea, then I could introduce one to a local FBI agent or two who are salt of the earth.— December 24, 2009 11:40 a.m.

With so much mention of Lombardi as patron saint of all pro sports, I'm still trying to figure out why anybody would be so (fill in the blank) as to move here from Wisconsin. After all, Wisconsin has cheese. All we have here is public debt and houses sliding off the market and Mount Soledad.— December 24, 2009 9:55 a.m.
