SOS — Save Our Sealife — in Chula Vista
WOW! I have so many questions. Was this a ploy to put pressure on the City Council at last night's meeting? Wasn't SDG&E on the hook to donate $2.5 million? Isn't there a danger in crying "wolf"? Something is fishy here, and it isn't in a pool at the Living Coast Discovery Center. To lose this facility will be a terrible black eye on Chula Vista.— October 2, 2013 10:34 p.m.
Southwestern College Foundation's Nathan Fletcher connection
In 2008, Humberto Peraza resigned as Bob Filner's aide to run for Chula Vista City Council. With Filner's endoresement, and the backing of Labor, he exuded great confidence that he would be handily elected. But it seemed no one could recall anything he ever did in the community. He came in last in a field of four and when Nick Aguilar had to resign from the SWC Board of Trustees for health reasons, Humberto cunningly manipulated his appointment to fill Nick's seat. He, of all people, should have thought of Nick Aguilar as the perfect veteran to address the SWC Foundation.— September 24, 2013 10:28 a.m.
Southwestern College Foundation's Nathan Fletcher connection
It seems to me that Lorena Gonzalez and Humberto Peraza are birds of a feather. She waged an ugly campaign against Steve Castaneda, and was endorsed by the Labor Council, Bob Filner, and Republican Supervisor Greg Cox. She quickly joined the bandwagon to force Bob Filner to resign, and then threw the Labor Council under the bus by endorsing Republican/Independent/Democrat Nathan Fletcher. She and her aide, Humberto Peraza, are now busy promoting their own political agenda. The SWC gala was not their first effort, and we can be pretty certain it won't be their last. They are both opportunists. Using the Southwestern Foundation this way is shameful!— September 23, 2013 9:44 p.m.
Chula Vista parents protest switch to Common Core State Standards
This is the partner of "VigilantinCV." Susan is absolutely correct about how important being able to read is -- almost. The rest of the equation is math, particularly algebra. I was an accounting major and I was surprised how often simple algebra helped me figure out an accounting problem. Even more surprising to me was how helpful simple algebra has been useful all my life in doing word problems. And I don't mean word problems out of a textbook, but real-life problems. A situation will come up and, usually involving some numbers, and if you state the problem and then write it down in equation form, it is easy to solve. The "=" is the "is." Just state a problem in English and when you come to the "is," you have the equation. I am 82 with a Ph.D. in economics and cannot see why my education with rote learning of the multiplication tables, plus algebra isn't the way to go.— September 20, 2013 11:24 a.m.
Chula Vista parents protest switch to Common Core State Standards
Thank you all for a good discussion, but it would take quite an optimist to believe that there is soon going to be any light at the end of the tunnel. So depressing!— September 20, 2013 11:12 a.m.
National City Planning Commission prodded to decide on making space for Alliant Int'l University
C'mon, everybody! Surely you know by now that Joe Little is the "go-to guy" in Chula Vista for any spinner from the inside cabal - whether it is to tear down someone outside the cabal or to flatter someone's ego inside the cabal. Joe was a member of the Growth Management Oversight Commission in Chula Vista when he landed a job with Channel 10 as their roving reporter. He has been faithful and it seems ever-loyal to that cabal.— August 16, 2013 9:40 p.m.
Alliant University leaves Sweetwater school district property in National City…sets up at Southwestern College?
Can anyone tell me why South Bay Communities Services/Kathy Lembo is using "Promise Neighborhood" grant money to recruit unsuspecting Sweetwater students to this highly questionable operation? What could they be thinking?— August 10, 2013 9:01 p.m.
Sweetwater trustee reports stolen property to police
I kind of thought "timtim" was Bert Grossman. Any thoughts on that? We already know that Brand and Grossman are pretty close.— June 19, 2013 10:46 a.m.
Chula Vista police chief Bejarano to home in on crime spot
Mayor Cox is the one who killed the Council Sub-Committee on Public Safety. This Sub-Committee (two Council members) was very active in the past. But Mayor Cox does not want anything to exist that she cannot control. Attend or view a Council meeting if you have any doubt about her compulsion to control.— June 14, 2013 12:50 p.m.
Sweetwater board candidate has his sign damaged
A political sign in a yard 4'x 6' far exceeds the legal size-limit for such. I recommend smaller signs for your real race. I love the fact that in Chula Vista many people participate in our political races by putting candidate signs in their yards. BUT -- I hate to see that privilege abused. So people like me sometimes make "citizen's arrests" and take down illegal political signs, particularly ones on public property. When I see illegal signs on private property, I call Code Enforcement, and they take care of it.— June 10, 2013 3:39 p.m.
