Book Criticizing San Diego Wins Top Award
Has anybody ever checked election years against infrastructure improvement contracts and departmental budget allocations/capital improvement program, and disparities/shuffling in scheduling? Seems there's been a flurry of activity in some neighborhoods. The history of "outsourcing" work once done by city workers might be an interesting subject too.— September 1, 2012 8:32 a.m.

Wall Street's High-Speed Gambling
I think Dietrich was afraid the Nazis would assassinate her, but Rand was afraid of the Soviets. Both may have been paranoid, but maybe they were out to get them. I don't know whether or not the house is still there or, but it's worth seeing. Neutra gave good lectures, and his buildings were, in many ways, better than Wrights. Dietrich never appealed to me either, and I love most all women. I've loved beautiful ones and ugly ones--what matters most is what's inside, but I've frequently been a very, very lucky man and gotten both soul and physical beauty in the same package--been with the same one for forty years now, and while I still keep looking, I haven't found one as good or prettier. And while she is far from perfect, she should get a medal for putting up with me . . . Oops! My memory failed me again. Maybe Dietrich was only a guest see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Von_Sternberg_House I saw the house in the mid-fifties; apparently is is no longer there. Seems like it was near Jack Warner's ranch . . . but don't trust my memory. One of Neutra's real masterpieces is still there (or was five years ago); the LA county building.— August 31, 2012 10 p.m.
Tilted Kilt waitresses and other San Diego bar girls sound off
Yeah, Molly, you ARE a pretty girl, but real men don't need to hang out at Hooters and hit the bars, so you're getting a BAD education. Don't date ANY customer in a place like that--designed to attract losers, and worse. All the stuff you're doing to yourself is simple fraud--be your OWN self, not some fantasy woman for eternally adolescent males. DON'T be a fantasy woman--be YOU!— August 31, 2012 9:40 p.m.
UCSD's Gary Jacobson and Keith T. Poole predict political peace
Gamboling is a sin, and besides I don't like the odds. No lottery has ever gotten so much as a thin dime outta me.— August 30, 2012 9:01 p.m.
Wall Street's High-Speed Gambling
To correct myself (if I now recall correctly), the house was built for Marlene Dietrich, and Rand bought it from her.— August 30, 2012 8:55 p.m.
Wind Project’s Heavy Equipment Damages Desert
Was an environmental impact study done? What are the specifics of the ecosystem restoration plan?— August 30, 2012 8:49 p.m.
Wall Street's High-Speed Gambling
That "higher percentage of our total economy" is a house of cards. What does that mean for the whole?— August 29, 2012 10:06 p.m.
