UC students, workers to protest fat executive pay
Just as I presumed. So is the way to get clarity on where we are today to lay out the relevant facts from square one and identify when, why, by whom, and to whose benefit such changes accrued, or is there a better way?— January 30, 2013 6:13 p.m.
UC students, workers to protest fat executive pay
Yes, but exactly what does the charter say? Anybody got a link to it? Or is it locked up in some Sacramento safe? Apathetic students are not to blame here. The Regents and the State of California have a fiduciary responsibility to faithfully fulfill the declarations of the charter.— January 30, 2013 6:06 p.m.
TV and video games may intensify violence
Time was, even in the movies, strength and courage rather than brutality and narcissism, were the messages that came through to young men and boys. Movies were a small part of the environment then; today, most of the adventure is of the armchair variety, and we are smothered by media products, starved for real experiences. What is the baseline against which violence can be measured?— January 30, 2013 2:13 p.m.
UC students, workers to protest fat executive pay
Certainly there's some pointy-headed academic who can dig up the information for us that graphs the cost of tuition in constant dollars since the opening of the UC system and track relevant corollary issues like "executive" (and professor, and other staff) pay, outsourced contracts, spending not directly related to the charter, and oh, yes, do an essay on the charter and any changes.— January 30, 2013 1:45 p.m.
San Diego City Council finds funds to trim palm trees
I have posted a link to this article at . . . http://www.sandiegoreader.com/weblogs/earth-fire-… . . . where I have added photos and a related article. Note the frond bases still attached to the "trunk" of the palms. These fall too, often in large batches, and can cause damage or injury.— January 30, 2013 1:19 p.m.

Rural/Metro: Secret Memos, Campaign Donations, and An Alleged $5.8 Million Excess Withdrawal
Outsourcing is outpouring. Solution: Don't outsource. Too many layers; too many places to hide. Bureaucracy, with all its problems, is far better.— January 29, 2013 3:52 p.m.

Ryan Leaf in state prison
Don, going back over the exchanges and re-reading my posts, I now see how I used poor wording and phrasing. The key statement that must have started the confusion was probably my statement "I presumed that you knew the difference." Mea culpa. I should have been more careful.— January 24, 2013 8:46 a.m.
