San Diego Unified charges all kinds of illegal fees
Asking for donations IS NOT ILLEGAL as long as they are strictly donations...no strings attached. Parents who donate want to do it of their own free will!! There are eduators, parents, administrators and students who all understand this law. By MARION ======================= #1) Asking for "dontions" could very well be ILLEGAL, depending on the time, place and manner it is done. #2) How would YOU know what OTHER parents do of their OWN FREE WILL??? Did you interview them all?? Do you perosnally know them all????? Or can you just read everyone's mind? #3) You don't understand the "law", so you claiming the rest of the world does is sort of a joke. Look, if you don't agree with someone elses view that is fine, but going around making unsupported attacks based on ridiculous and unsupported statements is bottom of the barrel.— March 29, 2010 7:56 a.m.
Despite Alleged Conflicts, Bersin Gets Border Post on Interim Basis
Grassley's concerns need to be addressed and resolved before Bersin is allowed to assume his position at Customs. By Burwell ============================= If Bersin is "appointed" during the Congress recess there is nothing anyone can do until the current term expires (don't have any idea how long that is).— March 29, 2010 7:48 a.m.
Despite Alleged Conflicts, Bersin Gets Border Post on Interim Basis
Well, we need to get some SDReader detectives onto this case! I have no idea of he is paying household help off the books, but even if he was, it was be brushed off and would not impact his appointment in any way shape or form. As for him being a lawyer (and former US Attorney for the Southern District) and getting disciplined over the matter- it would never happen because hs is connected. I have being singing this song for years now-gov is about connections first and foremost. I have seen the abuses run rampant in every single branch, including the federal judiciary where you would never expect it to happen-but it does. And the only ones I have ever heard say the opposite were the ones benefiting from the abuses or the ones engaging in the abuses (i.e. employees, congress, judges), who claim it is all on the level.— March 29, 2010 7:45 a.m.
Poll: Americans Distrust Wall Street, but Not Sure about Government
But what we have today (and I'm sure there is no need to point this out to you or the very knowledgeable folks who frequent your fine blog) is NOT free market capitalism and I'm not sure that a real free market capitalist society is possible. There is simply too much special interest money involved for that scenario to ever play out. What we have now is crony capitalism--and I believe we are actually heading more toward a fascist system. If we had a true free market capitalist system, all those banks and car companies would have been allowed to go under. By MondoGrapes 7:24 a.m ================ Good post-I missed it the first time around. I think it is very accurate and on the money.— March 27, 2010 11:29 p.m.

Another "appointed" gov workfare job for Bersin. If this guy EVER had to earn his own way in the real world (a/k/a the private sector) he would not survive a single week. He has the "appointed" gov US Attorney job, the "appointed" gov airport job, the "appointed" gov schools job, this "appointed" Border gov job and who knows how many other "appointed" gov jobs I missed. This is how the gov operates though, you get high paying gov jobs not on merit or qualifications, but on connecttions.— March 27, 2010 11:23 p.m.
It Was a Cloudy, Rainy Day...
The City makes it UNDUELY hard to fight a ticket-you first need to pay the "bail" downtown, then you need to go to court in Kearny Mesa and set a court date, and then go to the court date-where the traffic meter maid will not show up- all done to delay and drive up your time, enegry and costs.— March 27, 2010 6:43 p.m.

...believe me not everyone hated Jarheads ================== I never hated Marines, nor did anyone I know. Same with the Navy, all the recruits from NTC would be down at Mission beach in force and there were never any problems-in fact it was what made this city so much fun. I miss NTC, and I miss all that NTC brougt here. I am sure glad Camp Pendleton and all the marines are still here.— March 27, 2010 6:40 p.m.
Local Lead Indicators Inch Up
Doubel dip recession, very possible. I know for a FACT we will have a double dip real estate bust. Wait until all the shadow REO's hit the fan. People today who have been paying for the last 2 years on an upside down mortgage are going to start walking away-especially if they are older and they know the value will NOT recover within their life spans. The ones who are not making payments-well, they will obviously go into foreclosure. People who have held off selling in order for the market to "return" will soon see there is not going to be any RE recovery within the next 5 years, then they too are going to toss in the towel. No jobs, no money. No money, no housing purchases/transactions. No housing pourchases/transactions, prices remail gflat-or worse they fall.— March 27, 2010 8:28 a.m.
Is City Council Cerebrally Bankrupt?
But every once-in-a-while the real "Emerald" lets loose with, pardon the pun, some real gems proving that air is what occupies the space between her ears. ================== Wow JW, I am surprised you would knock Marti like that-especially since she seems to back the public unions. I was interviewed by Marti once (at random) and she was smart and intelligent (to me). I also liked the work she did as an investigative reporter at KGTV 10. I supported her on these different blogs when she ran for office-even though we seem at odds on our political views. But the bottom line is I want an independant and smart person in our elected positons over someone who would tow the line with no brain power. Taht is why I liked Marti before- and still do today.— March 27, 2010 8:22 a.m.
