County's Job Loss One of Worst in U.S.
The difference is the job losses in San Diego are most likely all service sector-most probably coming from the tourism and hospitality industry. LA and Maricopa, AZ have manufacturing bases and are not as dependant on tourism.— April 1, 2010 6:35 p.m.
San Diego’s best-known short seller, Barry Minkow
Shorting is for pros, not amateurs. I tried it once, a long time ago, and learned that fast. ============== One of the hedge funds Mike Lewis covers in his book "The Big Short" was a guy in Silicon Valley, a doctor turned fund manager, and he went through the sub prime mortgage propsectus' of all the big invetsment banks and KNEW they were garbage. He just needed to make a good calculated guess at when those mortgages/CDO's would implode, and he guessed right and made billons. This guy was apparently one of just a handful who figured it out-and he certainly did his homework pulling the info out of the disclosures.— April 1, 2010 12:15 a.m.

SD Home Values Rise, Reports S&P
One thing I noticed is that people don't say hello. I am so used to it now where I live. Everywhere you go, people look you in the eye and smile. In CA, that never happens. ====================== I have a friend who I went to grad shcool with in Lansing, MI.-we were both from So Cal and she ended up staying. So anyway we were talking recently about how differnt it is in a small town like Lansing, especially when compared to CA. It is more laid back and friendly. And it is very true-the small town environment of the mid west are light years apart from CA living. I am not saying it is better here or in a small mid west town-but it certainly is different.— April 1, 2010 12:05 a.m.

I saw the BIGGEST yacht I have ever seen in my life at Shelter Island today-it was parked at the end of the Kona Kai Hotel (Shleter Pointe??), between the end of the hotel and the little house the Harbour Patrol uses as a base, it was right there. "Ocean Victory", 4 levels, and at least half a football field long...it DWARFED everything else in the marina, I don't even know how a boat that big was able to go that far into the bay. Here it is; http://yachts.monacoeye.com/yachtsbyname/mediafil… http://www.superyachts.com/motor-yacht-3409/ocean…— March 30, 2010 7:25 p.m.

Until the economy starts creating jobs, decent paying jobs, there will be no rise or recovery in housing or anyhting else. No jobs = no housing recovery.— March 30, 2010 7:18 p.m.
Dubious Accounting Hides Greater Pension Woes
Oppsss...sorry for poaching your source Don. Hey-I just saw the BIGGEST yacht I have ever seen in San Diego this afternoon "Ocean Victory".....HUGE.....I am going to post a pic of it on the David Copley thread....— March 30, 2010 7:16 p.m.
Dubious Accounting Hides Greater Pension Woes
This is what I was talkign about; BY GINA CHON Government-pension problems, widely considered bad, may actually be even worse. That is the assessment of some experts who maintain that the current rules of number crunching for state and local governments make retirement-benefit obligations seem lower than they really are. Soon, their view may prevail. The accounting board for governments is likely to move toward changes that would increase the pension liability that local governments display on balance sheets by tens of billions of dollars. If the modifications are approved, many already cash-strapped states and municipalities would likely have to increase the amount they are supposed to pay annually http://online.wsj.com/article/SB20001424052748703…— March 30, 2010 8:06 a.m.
