Local Unemployment Rate Back to 11%
Hey, didn't Big Ben Bernanke say the depression is OVER-he said it ended like 6 months ago????? This is has been the longest, and deepest, downturn of my/our lives. BTW, the U-3 UE rate is 11%, the REAL UE rate-the U-6 rate - is at least double that.— April 16, 2010 12:40 p.m.
San Diego’s chronic structural budget deficit affliction
It is common in San Diego for partners in major law firms to earn $2 million per year. A guy can earn $1 million per year selling business insurance. Some medical doctors earn $50,000 per month. Thousands in San Diego earn incomes of this magnitude. The highly compensated would not sit still for this tax. ================== B-I can guarantee you that there are (at most) probably just a HANDFUL of equity law firm partners-major firm or otherwise- that are pulling down $2 million a year in San Diego, same for doctors. Out of the tens of thousands. The notion that "Thousands in San Diego earn incomes of this magnitude" is flat out false. Please prove me wrong and back that claim up. There are certainly a few, but not thousands, maybe not even a hundred.— April 16, 2010 8:49 a.m.
San Diegans Dominate Delinquent Tax List
Wow, pjamason2, good connection. Same guy (ex-Padre) who caught a fly ball (hit by Ozzie Smith, a double Padre connection) barehanded =========== Hahahha...this is from that wikipedia entry; "In a July 2007 radio interview with local sports talk radio station KNBR, Mitchell disputed that he was out of uniform at the time, and stated that he never wore a cup, even when playing infield. When asked why he never wore a cup, Mitchell responded, "I couldn’t find one big enough for my junk." The interviewer then commented that maybe the increased mobility helped Mitchell to make the famous 1989 barehanded catch of Ozzie Smith's fly ball" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Mitchell_(base…— April 15, 2010 10:34 p.m.

To be honest-if I could have a wish to be anything in life-I would wish to be a singer! I see all the competitors on American Idol and dream!— April 15, 2010 4:30 p.m.
San Diego’s chronic structural budget deficit affliction
If San Diego is ever to get its financial house in order, it needs to deal with the outgo side and the income side ==================== That's a winner. Simple math. You cannot pay out $200K comp packages to GED gov employees like cop and ff. Employees who retire at age 50. We now have two workforces, those "retired" at age 50 and living another 30-40+ years, and those who are currently working-for 30 years max, sometimes less. Coem to think of it we may have close to 3 workforces if things are not fixed with the pension system and the "retirement" ages. They will get fixed though, thru BK-which I have said for the last 4 years was coming-and it is.— April 15, 2010 8:40 a.m.

Taxpayers Absorb Cost of Highly Paid Players
And I don't believe that politicians are WHOLLY responsible, I understand that team owners use their elbows to dig into their own pockets. I would certainly think that anyone worth $3.5 billion would be willing to use twenty percent of that in order to fund a new stadium ====================== Gringo; #1) as Don pointed out, there was close to $100 million of gov/public money given to the Giants for their stadium, as I recall . #2) infrastructure is NOT paid for, nor supposed to be paid for, buy the gov. That is a cost born by the property owners-be it homeowner, developer or commercial building owner. Do you think the gov pays for water or sewer hook ups to homes that don't have them?? That gov pays for roads and sidewalks in new developments? Of course not-why would you think the gov would pay for private property/stadium infrastructure expenses? #3) If you think ANY billionaire is going to fork over 20% of their worth when they can get taxpayers to do it for free, you are living in Fantasyland. I have never heard of ANY team owner paying their own way-much less 20% of their worth.— April 15, 2010 8:33 a.m.

Taxpayers Absorb Cost of Highly Paid Players
Unfortunately, the op-ed didn't get into the extremely sleazy connections of Carl Pohlad, the late Twins owner, who threatened to move the team, then have it eliminated through contraction, if he didn't get his way with the Minnesota legislature. ============== Thank Al Davis. He was the one one that originated and perfected the "build us a stadium or we will move" scam. Now it is used by all teams in all sports. Chargers are using it right now, and have been for the last 8 years.— April 13, 2010 10:28 p.m.
