Paean to Jerry Dominelli
His brother and I were hanging out and he was telling how cool a place it was and how cool the Macintosh was. =========== The Mac changed the face of personal computing with the first GUI for the masses on the Mac in 1984, and then MS stole it ( a version of it) and developed the Windows system and left Apple in the dust...of course apple stole the GUI from Xerox, so I don't shed any tears for Apple either..... But today Apple is by far the most innovative company in America, and maybe the world.......of course they have shifted away from the computer-and they dropped "computer" from their corporate name as well.— June 8, 2010 7:47 p.m.
Grand Jury Says City Should Consider Bankruptcy
Thanks for the links...am reading the report right now...... Well, good report. One problem, Some of the "facts" are just repeated statements lifted from other reports-who knows if they are really facts or not-it is second had info, hearsay. But even so, there is no way KFC Sanders will take any of it seriously-he has proven he is not going to do anything to fix the cities problems if it involves making hard choices-which it certainly does. "RECOMMENDATION" "The 2009/2010 San Diego County Grand Jury recommends that the Mayor of the City of San Diego and the San Diego City Council: 10-140: Convene a panel of bankruptcy experts to discuss the legal and financial ramifications of a Chapter 9 declaration of bankruptcy, in the context of a publicly noticed City Council or Council Committee meeting." (Even though it is right here in black and white, KFC Sanders will make some ridiculous comment that we are not elible to file BK, or Jan Mop Head Goldsmith will claim a cost of $300 million-which the report clearly refutes) KFC Sanders is a lame duck, and the sooner he is out of office the better we all are in moving forward on fixing the problems.— June 8, 2010 7:41 p.m.
Grand Jury Says City Should Consider Bankruptcy
I cannot find the report anywhere online-does anyone have a link?— June 8, 2010 2:09 p.m.
Paean to Jerry Dominelli
Yes, the turn around of Apple has been nothing short of amazing. And yes, Jobs is the reason, he is their leader, physically, spiritually, technically-in every sense of the word. And the funny thing is while Apple has had such an amazing and strong rebound-Microsoft has laid bomb after bomb after bomb. I mean they bascially stole everything they have to start with (including windows), but outside of the Windows OS, they have had so many failures it is shocking, and even Windows OS has had some pretty big let downs recently. Technology changes so fast, and todays success my be tomorrows crash and burn...— June 8, 2010 12:30 p.m.
Grand Jury Says City Should Consider Bankruptcy
This one will be controversial: the grand jury wants the City to explore long term leasing (not sales) of desirable City-owned property to developers, such as parkland in Mission Bay, Balboa Park, Torrey Pines and the Qualcomm Stadium area. My caution to taxpayers: there is often little difference between a sale and a long term lease. ================== Ask Chicago residents how those long term leases worked out on their parking meters, which were sold off for a one time cash infusions to meet daily operating expenses. That one time infusion of cash is long gone, but the 75 year parking meter lease has another 74 years left to run.— June 8, 2010 12:22 p.m.
Fitch Warns of Tax Increases
This is happening now at the state level due to the high state income tax ==================== The sales tax when I was growing up was 6%-and everything was paid in full, with much better services and much lower costs for those services. Higher education was almsot free in CA during my years growing up. Today the sales tax is 9.5-10% or more depending on the county, an increase of over 60%, yet we are in the hole tens of billion every year, why? What has changed??? Employee comp-that's what.— June 8, 2010 12:19 p.m.
Fitch Warns of Tax Increases
The problem is that once imposed, those taxes encourage the better-off residents to avoid or evade them. The best way to avoid paying is to flee the jurisdiction. ========= It also encourages the City to just keep misusing the taxes, giving retroactive pension increases, big yearly raises to the employees while everyone esle remains stagnant, bigger benefit packages-they know all they have to do is seek a taxpayer handout to cover their largess instead of them making tough choices.— June 8, 2010 12:16 p.m.
Grand Jury Says City Should Consider Bankruptcy
Hey, didn't anyone hear, KFC Sanders said we are in no need of a BK filing. Our esteemed City Attorney, as well as our esteemed resident GED cop Just Wondering, said it would cost $100-$300 million to file, no source to back up those wild numbers, but if they said it it must be true (espeically since Vallejo has spent a whopping $4 million on their BK, so $300 million is certainly in that ballpark-if you're playing on Mars). We are in a major hole, and the economy has not turned, and like I have said many times before-we will file BK, it is just a matter of when.— June 8, 2010 12:13 p.m.

BTW-entities can use the property of others-like pics-under the "fair use" doctrine. I am not that up to date on what qualifies but I am sure that if you are not using the pic to make money you would have a good case.— June 8, 2010 8:55 a.m.

If Combs put the image in his Facebook without stating that the rights belonged to someone ================= I am pretty sure all FB photes require a disclosure that you have the rights to the photo being uploaded ....it always has required that of me anyway.— June 8, 2010 8:51 a.m.
