R.I.P. (or Don’t), M.J.
"But innocent people do get acquitted." So do guilty ones, especially when they have the resources most people don't. By lifesbeengood 12 =================== I'm sorry, but MJ was not guilty of anything except being an eccentric nut case from a pretty violent childhood-that was a witch-hunt in the same fashion as the Dale Akiki witch-hunt. I saw the evidence and it was garbage. The only thing they had was one kid, out of tens of thousands that had been to the ranch, and the kids mother. The mothers testimony was garbage, and every juror said so, she was a certifiable gold digger. This was one of the most heavily prosecuted cases I have ever seen and the prosecution came up with zero, nothing, not a SINGLE conviction on a single count. The rule in prosecution is simple, you ONLY bring cases you can PROVE beyond a reasonable doubt, if not then you don't waste the time money and costs. This witch-hunt cost SB County millions. All wasted.— July 8, 2010 6:30 p.m.
City Trying to Block Deposition of Sanders
Wow, good job on that a2z, Sanders has his neck half way in the noose now. Maybe we will get lucky and get him to committ some perjury, or at the very least tie down his statements so they are locked in and not subject to change.— July 8, 2010 6:21 p.m.
Sense and Nonsense
A couple years ago, our nabobs here in Vista managed to push a sales tax boost through the voters, a fact that amazed me at the time. =============== I am sure a large portion of that tax went to fund the pulbic safety pensions too, which is what La Mesa did a year or two ago with their sales tax request, and I may be wrong but El Cajon migh have done the same thing.— July 8, 2010 4:36 p.m.
Sense and Nonsense
CCDC and SEDC both should have been canned, at a minimum, 2 years ago when their so called CEO's were both busted for ripping off the taxpaying public. They really should have been canned 20 years ago b/c their ROI/ROTI to the taxpaing public is a negative.— July 8, 2010 1:54 p.m.
Sense and Nonsense
The Lincoln Club, the Republican money-doling operation, has come out against a sales tax increase. (I am not saying whether the tax proposal itself is a good or bad idea.) ========== Don, come on, it is a HORRIBLE idea. The sales tax is a regressive tax that has nearly doubled in CA. during the last 20 years. That is ridiculous. And as I have said before, this is a tax that goes not to a better government and improved or government services, but right into the pockets and pensions of public employees.— July 8, 2010 9:05 a.m.
Law Firm Giving Financial Advice Taking No New Cases
Jeez Don, I always believed you were an optimist based on the stories you write and the angles they contain. Where did I go wrong? By JustWondering =============== With 3%@50 pension scams.— July 8, 2010 8:07 a.m.
Law Firm Giving Financial Advice Taking No New Cases
If we taught kids ethics and economic responsibility in grade school, we wouldn't have anybody to occupy those important posts on Wall Street and in Congress. ====== And that's the problem, as David Cay Johnston points out in his books, the break down in morals and ethics at all levels of business and gov, starting at the top.— July 7, 2010 8:18 p.m.
Law Firm Giving Financial Advice Taking No New Cases
The politician in questions would probably benefit from a few sessions in a sweat lodge to help him find his inner warrior. =============== Where can I find one of these so called sweat lodges? This is a Native Americans tradition-correct? I understand that lawyers do take a class in ethics but I am not sure if a passing grade indicates the student will have or has a moral compass. ================= There are no required classes imposed by the ABA, with ONE exception-ethics! All ABA LS's require one 45 hour ethics class as a condition of graduation in order to maintain ABA approval. LS's are free to design their programs in any way they wish aside from the ethics class. And as I have said repeatedly here-a 45 hour ethics class at age 25 is not going to change anyones ehtics or moral compass-it is really a useless waste of time, money and energy so states can impose more "feel good" rules, laws and regulations. If the states wanted to foot the bill for this garbage I would feel less hostility towards it, but they don't. They just want to impose useless, do nothing, "feel good" rules, laws and regulations. In fact I would equate this to the 18 month techer credentialing classes needed to be certified as a teacher (which has no testing or other objective standard to use as a measure once the classes are finished)— July 7, 2010 1:07 p.m.
General Announcement, Please Read
I await with tuna infused breath.. ============= Oh, that is going into my book of lines.....cannot wait to use it!!!— July 7, 2010 8:52 a.m.
Be prepared for second recession in Calif.
The argument that the economy will fall apart without more fiscal and monetary stimulus is persuasive. ============ And the argument that more deficit spending will destroy the country is even more persuassive IMO. If we have to face the music and a longer term recession, then so be it-we need to fix the out of balance budgets and spending. I might agree with you Don if Gov put a hard cap on ALL spending for a period of time-say 3-5 years, but they won't. They continue to spend far beyond the means of the people and country-and that will collapse everythibg eventually.— July 7, 2010 8:31 a.m.
