Irate Judge Now Feels Lerach's Sentence Was Too Lenient
I've met Mr. Winfield, the nicest man you'll ever come in contact with, and the Padres and Dave go very well together ===================== Dave Winfield was drafted in ALL THREE major sports! Baseball, football and basketball. Great athlete. Very few can make that claim. Tony Gwynn was drafted in both baseball and basketball, and played both at SDSU. The reason he chose SDSU over Long Beach State was b/c the baseball coach at LBS refused to allow Tony to play basketball if he was offered a baseball scholarship. Coach Dietz at SDSU said play B-Ball with Smokey, no problemo!— August 15, 2010 11:29 p.m.

There are other factors: one of the members of the original syndicate was generally considered a front for mob money, although it's possible he wasn't in that case. ============ Wasn't Steinbrenner a convicted felon??? I know I have heard that. Wha was he convicted of? I know when SF 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr was convicted of a felony bribe case he gave up control of the niners (to his sister). Last-if you knew Steinbrenner Don, did you ever interview him on any topic when he was owner of the Yankees? Did he still take your calls when he reached that level?— August 15, 2010 3:39 p.m.
Permit an insolvent city to subsidize a Charger stadium?
But maybe all of us should tone down our rhetoric, toss fewer invective darts, so people less prone to hurling pejoratives can join in ============= It's the Internet-it was made for hurling anonymous, invective rhetoric. That's why it is so much fun!— August 15, 2010 1:01 p.m.
Permit an insolvent city to subsidize a Charger stadium?
This week we have had a program to help bail out the states. There will be many more. By dbauder ============ The feds are now doing for the states what the states cannot do for themselves-run budget deficits. But then again, all the feds do is turn on the money printing machine in the WH basement-and whaaaallllaaaaa, instant cash. What the feds should have done was tell the states to cut comp for state employees who are already vastly over comped-and have so far shown no intentions or reeling in that comp.— August 15, 2010 10:57 a.m.

Don: PLease elaborate on your statement 0% a year for last 11 years. How so? thanks, By SanDiegoParrothead =========================== I have posted this DJIA stat recently in response to the 3%@50 pension that was approved by the CA legislature in 1999 and implemented in 2000 (for the CHP, but spread to every muni in the state covering numerous employee classifications). The claim by Calpers in 1999 was stock market investments would pay for the ENTIRE 50% retroactive increase in pension benefits that were allowed to be collected 5 years sooner-at age 50; DJIA 5-13-1999 = 11,100 (when SB 400 was passed) DJIA 6-30-2010 = 9,774 A full 1,326 point LOSS in more than 11 years Don most likely refers to this fact.— August 15, 2010 10:50 a.m.

I hadn't read the Reader in some time but I'm glad I did today. You need more articles like this. This town's populace is asleep at the wheel. ================ Not only alseep at the wheel, but KFC Sanders has driven our car off the cliff..............— August 15, 2010 10:41 a.m.

Why the reporter chose to report those rates instead of the default rates--which one might note is 100% minus 36% equals 64% for the for-profits--is anybody's guess. =========== No, the default rate is different from those not paying-those not paying, and there are millions, could be in either 1) forebearance, or 2) deferement. But the TRUE test of the education institution and the student loan is how many loans are actually PAID back in FULL? If the loan is never paid back, then it really does not matter if it is not in default-because the purpose it to have the loan paid back. With all the scams in student lending that is causing many problems, from the scams, not the students doing the borrowing.— August 15, 2010 10:39 a.m.

If Trump is washed up, what will commercial TV do? ================ Trumps TV show was not good for his already over inflated ego. I agree with B, Trump's heyday is long gone. He was at his apex in the 80's, been downhill the last 2 decades for him, and at 65 he is no spring chicken either.....and his hair style and fakle orange color finalizes his cartoon image to me- IMHO!— August 14, 2010 5:27 p.m.
Philly Child's Death Also Blamed on Brownouts
Do you have to show qualifications to become Mayor ? ========== Yes, you need to be appointed to run the United Way, and then do a stint with the Red Cross for a year or two......And maybe do a stint as an appointed police chief. Then you're qualified.— August 14, 2010 5:19 p.m.
