The old Yuma prison is pretty intense to visit, would never have wanted to get laid up there. As for AC, back when Ben Seigle developed the Flamigo Hotel in Vegas, the only reason it worked was because of AC, which as I recall was brand new, before that it was just fans. I realy liked Yuma, it grows on you. Much the way Michigan grew on me when I was there for grad school. Hated both in the begining, but after living there for a time I liked them both...........Of course Michigan is a much more dramatic change from San Diego than Yuma is, and having never lived outside CA before, it was a welcome change to live in the mid west......— August 21, 2010 11:55 a.m.

Well, if a muni BK cutting pensions goes to the SCOTUS, under the current conservative majority there is no doubt in my mind the ruling will go in favor of the gov/muni-cutting the pension costs. It will be interesting to see if any of the current justices from the conservative wing of the court step down while Obama is in office, or is re elected in 14. Scalia and Kennedy are both up there age wise- but Kennedy is more of a swing vote than a true blue conservative like Scalia and Thomas (although not as much of a swing as O'Connor was).— August 21, 2010 10:14 a.m.

The point was the investment returns were up, up substantially more than anyone expected. But in reality while a positive, it's not really that important when considering the long term investment strategies. Ups, or as Don mentioned, rallies, declines or sideways movements are mere blimps on an investment plan with a 20, 30 or 40 year time horizon. The fact is the city pension, like Calpers, could have 20%+++++ returns the next 5 years and it will still be in the red, by hundreds of millions of dollars, and the healthcare deficit will still be twice as big as the pension deficit. The problem this city has, like Calpers and every muni in this state, is that tens of thousands of employees going FORWARD (as in future) are retiring with multi million dollar pension packages, packages that outstrip the pension funding by billions.— August 21, 2010 7:16 a.m.

I have stayed in Palm Springs, and lived in Yuma, and dry heat makes it a little more tolerable, but when you're at 110, which both get to on a regular basis in summer-you need to stay in the entire time during the day.— August 20, 2010 7:23 p.m.

JustClueless, this thread is about the CA unemployment rate, not the pension system that has lost 30% of it's value in the last 3 years and is underfuned by 50%, and to top off I had not even posted in the thread-your comments are clueless, same as your name.
