Belmont Park Predicament Not Amusing
In the mid ’80s, looking to redevelop and reinvigorate the park and the area, city officials decided to issue nearly $6 million in rent credits on the land. The rent credits attracted new owners. Renovations were made to the park, and a lifeguard tower and restroom facilities were built. ======================== I lived on Ensenada Ct, the first court south of Belmot Park in 1988, that is when the developer-AGANST COMMUNITY SUPPORT- broke ground on a deal to make the so called "Park" into a shopping center. And it has-as expected-been a major flop. They only get business during the summer months-or 25% of the year. A shopping center at the beach does not make sense, didn't in 1988 and it doesn't today. The bathrooms were NOT redone, nor the lifeguard tower, in 1988 like they were supposed to be redone (like the article states), it took 12 years and was paid for by the City, not the original developer. They cannot make BP residential, it is not zoned for it and the community will not let the City sell off prime beach front land the entire community has a right to- in order to make a selected and connected few rich. They should let the bank foreclose, but it out of foreclosure and tear down the shops, leave the plunge. Make it back into what it once was.— November 10, 2010 1:07 p.m.
DeMaio Blind to One Thing: Greed
Remember, many San Diegans, if not most, believe Sanders will get the City out of the pension mess. =============== Maybe this was true when KFC Sanders was elected, but not today-I would bet 75% of the city residents have no faith in him and just want him out of office. In fact Prop D is a very solid indication of that. The worst thing is this has been repeated at the state level with Arnold, and the national level wth Obama. There was hope, and positive karma going into their administrations, and that hope died out after things did not go as planned, despite good intentions and efforts under Arnold and Obama. And in some cases the official did not live up to his promises- like KFC Sanders. I hope Obama's Presidency mirros that of Ronnie Raygun, where the first two years were AWFUL, and then the country bounced back bigtime the last two years. I don't think that is going to happen with Obama though, the problems are structural and much deeper IMO, and this quantatative easing baloney is going to drive conumser prices into the stratosphere while destroying the value of the dollar. It is IMO the perfect financial storm.— November 10, 2010 8:07 a.m.
DeMaio Blind to One Thing: Greed
to see if he has a bucket of sealant or something else in his backyard shed that I could use when nobody is looking, before Akins Avenue adjacent to the 62nd Street trolley station turns into a giant frakking sinkhole. It's gonna happen soon since chunks of asphalt are missing already, the roadbed is exposed, and more rains are coming. =========== I had a friend that had to clean out his own storm drains every winter, because there was so mcuh debris in them the thing backed up and the city crews never did it-so he went out every winter and cleaned them out-all the garbage and such. Now, if we could only get a refund for self service we would be doing OK!— November 10, 2010 8 a.m.
Walmart Woos; San Diego Plays Hard to Get
it is now time to give our leaders "The Flying Fickle Finger of Fate Award*" for doing the San Diego Leadership "Three-Way": ============ I agree 100%!!— November 10, 2010 7:57 a.m.
Raphael Ramey's Road Rage, Without the Car, in Oceanside
Another thought. How many of us have wanted to murder the lying cheat of a car salesman or sales manager who sold us a clunker? ============== I would fantasize about it, but who would kill someone over a few months pay?? I would not be able to live with myself if I took a life over an insignificant issue.— November 9, 2010 7:42 p.m.
DeMaio Blind to One Thing: Greed
Carl DeMaio would be a great improvement on Sanders. =========== I would submit any current 5th grader within the city limits who has average grades would be a great improvement on KFC Sanders.— November 9, 2010 5:04 p.m.
Walmart Woos; San Diego Plays Hard to Get
Westfield Group would love to knock down the entire Robinsons-May (Planet Hollywood) building, turn it into a city park, and be forgiven of some $35 million in retail and parking fee cuts to CCDC between now and 2035. ===================== So, the question becomes is that area worth $35 milliion? The answer is a qualified NO! That is a ridiculous request-$35 million???? Are they nuts? When the Paladium shopping center, on the block south of Horton, was finished in 1994 it cost $32 million, it sold for just $9 million a year later as a bank REO property. The Paladium is an ENTIRE BLOCK!— November 9, 2010 5:02 p.m.
Walmart Woos; San Diego Plays Hard to Get
To paraphrase Dr. Evil, why must we be governed by freaking morons? ================ Oh, that is so funny b/c it is so true!— November 9, 2010 4:58 p.m.
Proposition D Thumbed Down Overwhelmingly
Far better to have a HUGE Pension and lost than to never to have had a Huge Pension at all... =============== Oh I agree!!! And it is also far better to have a lottery style pension that was retroactively granted cut by 30% than have no pension at all.... like the situation in Prichard, AL right now.— November 9, 2010 7:31 a.m.
Proposition D Thumbed Down Overwhelmingly
JW is still missing in action, I wonder if he is sweating bullets over the solvency of the pension system now that Prop D failed (as if D would have done anything more than put a band aid on a shotgun injury)?????? If the pension fund is in trouble, the question will be what happens if San Diego is forced into a bankrutcy filing. And if a Chapter 9 is filed, will the City tried to shed a portion of the pensions?? I would be very worried if I were a gov employee and lived in SD, CV, LA, OC and a number of other muni's across this state.— November 8, 2010 9:14 p.m.
