Belmont Park Predicament Not Amusing
BTW, I know it's not as big, and technically not on the sand, but there is a roller coaster Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier. ====================== There is a ferris wheel there, but I have no knowledge of a roller coaster. BTW 2, I wonder why Dorian forgot to mention that Belmont Park filed BK on 11-3. ====================== Good!!! I hope the city scoops it up for pennies on the dollar and dumps all the shops (won't haqppen). There was a lousy gym there when it opened, I assume that is gone now too (not the plunge). Fitness Advantage bought that gym in the mid 90's, don't know if Fitness Advantage is still out in Spring Valley or not.— November 12, 2010 1:39 p.m.

USIU had two campuses during its existence. The Point Loma campus was sold to what is now Point Loma Nazarene University. It is a beautiful place under the current ownership, and has had many buildings added during that time. ==================== I don't think the Point Loma was USIU before Point Loma took it over. Point Loma has been at that site since the late 1970's. I had a track camp there in the summer of 1978 (UCLA Coach Jim Bush ran his track camp there). I thought Western State or Balboa University was the prior school, but could be wrong.— November 12, 2010 1:33 p.m.

See, that is also why I am incapapble of having a long long term romance, I am fine with the affection, communication and respect part-but I cannot compromise.— November 12, 2010 10:11 a.m.

Dear Abby had a letter in today's column that is very on topic here-and I agree with her (as always); DEAR ABBY: I am a woman who married for the second time after 54 years of marriage. I was 71 and had been a widow for only one year. I had married my late husband at 16, and thought I could not live alone. Do you have any words of wisdom for someone such as myself? Older people are so set in their ways that blending is so very difficult. -- HAVING TROUBLE IN FLORIDA DEAR HAVING TROUBLE: If you remarried only because you were afraid of living alone, then you did it for the wrong reason. There are worse things than living alone -- and one of them is being married to a person who is unwilling to compromise. ****** The keys to a successful union are affection, communication, respect and compromise. ***** If both parties sincerely care about and respect each other, the union will be successful and lasting.— November 12, 2010 10:09 a.m.
THOUGHTS OF MY DAD ON VETERANS DAY
People without their dad's in their lives tend to fantasize that their lives would be complete if they just had contact with their dad. Nothing could be further from the truth. Having a dad in your life doesn't guarantee anything if he is no good. My kids' dads would have hurt them again and again, if given the chance. ============= You described my Dad perfectly, 100% on the money. We were far better off without him. A raging violent, self centered alcoholic who put himself first, put himself ahead of his children and family. Ran out on the family within 6 months. Never sent Birthday nor Christmas presents, or even a card. Showed up for a day or two once every 3-5 years. Was too busy out having fun and taking care of one person-himself. Never paid a dime in child support. Physically beat my Mom regularly. Gave me a black eye as a 12 year old. You are also 100% correct-if ANY parent-mother or father- is a risk to the child, be it emotional or physical, then they are better off with out them. And should be without them. I have seen too many parents put the SPOUSE or SO AHEAD of the well being of the child-for selfish reasons. Your children come before your spouse, before your parents, before your siblings-they come before anyone. That also reinforces my point-these types of parents put themselves first by their irresponsible actions. Ahead of the children. Lay blame where it belongs, on the loser of a parent who does not live up to the duties and reponsibilities of having, and caring for, their children. I am sorry if this comes across as abrasive, it is not my intent, just my true feelings.— November 12, 2010 10:02 a.m.
THOUGHTS OF MY DAD ON VETERANS DAY
It isn't that simple SP. Sounds like he tried. Fantastic story, just the same. ================= It was an inspriring, yet sad story. I don't want to sound too harsh, and I hope I do not come across as such considering the pain this has caused-but those are my feelings in the previous post. No one should dump their children no matter what the circumstances. I have seen so many broken families as a direct result of irresponsible parents (as a teacher at one of the poorest schools in the country-National City Middle School) who put themselves ahead of their children, when it should ALWAYS be the other way around.— November 12, 2010 9:53 a.m.

We are proud to have a lawyer who will argue before the Supreme Court as a distinguished and most prolific poster on this blog ============= I am only asking the SCOTUS to review it, SCOTUS review is discretionary and it only takes one case out of every 150 it receives-your chances of actually being granted review are slim, very slim. But you take you swing at the plate and hope for the best.— November 12, 2010 9:49 a.m.
LA Times Cites San Diego Public Corruption
No, folks in LA, and all over the U.S., actually, have known about San Diego's corruption for a long time. The only people who don't know it are the voters who live in San Diego. ============ Hhahahah...so true.!— November 12, 2010 9:45 a.m.
Belmont Park Predicament Not Amusing
I don't know about getting run out of town over it, though I guess that depends on your definition. ========= Mike Gotch was despised at Mission Beach, his home turf, and I mean he was HATED. He owned a house on one of the courts between Belmont Park and PB Drive, about midway, forgot which court he was on. But he had to go. His brother moved into his house-and I know that because he brother shopped at Trader Joe's in PB when I worked there in the late 80's and I asked where Mike was run off to................!!!!! If you were a local you had some serious hate for the guy, b/c no one wanted a shopping center at the beach-and we were ALL RIGHT. That thing is a white elephant, it has been a complete bomb. I am trying to think of just ONE busienss that has been open more than 5 years there and I can only think that MAYBE the arcade (if it is still open) has been. But there is not a single business that has been there, in full operation, since BP opened in 1988. The average restaurant-and there have been at least 8-10- lasts only 1-2 years then goes BK (think "The Hop", "Red Onion", "Chillers", "Canes"....the list is a mile long........)— November 12, 2010 7:57 a.m.
