Eucalyptus Smashes Quince Street Span
The Quince Street Bridge is 236 feet long and hangs 60 feet above Maple Canyon. It was designed by engineer and Banker’s Hill resident George A. d’Hemecourt and completed in 1905. ============ Wow, I cannot believe this bridge is that old!— March 22, 2011 4:35 p.m.
Are American Engineers in Short Supply?
I find it hard to reconcile the vehement assertions that there is no shortage of engineers in San Diego with my own experience in the San Diego tech and startup scene. Perhaps in non-software engineering there are plenty of talent and no jobs, but that is certainly not true right now in software. I am a software developer and the CTO of a small startup where I am currently the sole developer, and I am actively attending many different events trying to recruit other developers. At *every* event the number of people trying to fill positions is larger than the number of people looking for work. .....At a startup, I don't have the resources that a Qualcomm has to deal with H1B visas, but I definitely feel the shortage of talent. ============== My first quesiton, and probably the answer, is are you offering a decent compensation package? I am going to guess no. The 300+ posts on this subject is contrary to your position by a pretty high margin.— March 21, 2011 5:19 p.m.
Are American Engineers in Short Supply?
Every time certain occupations in America are offshored en masse, the American workers are told to suck it up and just retrain for the next new jobs, as though it's easy and cheap for them to do. Ridiculous... =============== LOL...and the dorks usually saying this crap are almost always polititicans who have no skill sets whatsoever and would be living out on the streets if not for their gov workfare.......... American workers are the most intelligent and highly trained in the world. We have student loan debt that exceeds credit card debt. We have millions of college grads who cannot find work, but somehow need to "update" their "skills". We have hundreds of thousands of law school grads who cannot find work and have no chance of ever becoming lawyers. Everytime I hear that Americans "need more skills or training" I want to knock the teeth out of the polititican saying it-and I would if I could do so with impunity.— March 21, 2011 5:05 p.m.
