San Diego's Social Swami Burl Stiff Dies
Burl was 83 and left no relatives. =========== That is sad.— May 20, 2011 4:54 p.m.
Michael Pines Defends Himself at Arraignment in Vista
Rail, the DA HAS to turn over all the evicence, to you or your lawyer-it is a constitutional right. You do not "make them" turn it over, the HAVE TO turn it over, usually without even asking. If you are ever charged with any crime, but especially a felony, you get a lawyer or if you're broke get a public defender (who are usually much better than the average criminal lawyer). Going pro per on ANY case in a criminal or civil case is nuts. The rules of procedure and evidence and everything else are highly complex and technical and lawyers spend YEARS in law school learning these rules, and more years in real life refining them. One last thing, you do not need to "go on record" for a jury trial (or any of your other rights), it is a constitutional right and must be WAIVED, waived on the record.— May 19, 2011 10:36 p.m.
How Michael T. Pines Defies the Law
He sounds like he may have gone off the deep end. I feel sorry for him in a sense, and also think he is a little koo-koo. I can see how his ramblings may scare some, but they are just that-ramblings, not threats in any manner whatsoever.— May 19, 2011 10:29 p.m.
How Michael T. Pines Defies the Law
If I read you correctly, it sounds like he is telling people to go back into the homes they were evicted from based on a foreclosure because either the foreclosure was not ligit, or the bank that issued the mortgage failed in their due diligence. ================ "60 Minutes" ran a pice on MASSIVE fraud in the banking foreclosure process last month-and after seeing that and the lack of charges against the banks, the banks not facing any accountability whatsoever for that fraud, well I am throughly convinced we are now a Banana Republic where the system is 100% rigged and biased. A Plutocracy. Two wrongs never make a right but sooner or later you're going to see widespread violence, anarchy and chaos breakout over this massive fraud perpetrated by Big Business and allowed to flourish by the courts. Pines is certainly a start to this- lets hope the courts get serious about fixing the fraud before the Pines of the world turn out to be a majority-which is not that far off.— May 19, 2011 10 p.m.
What gives you the right?
nan, I used to work with all the military commissary’s here in So Cal, and the incompetence and passing of the back/failure to take any responsibility I saw was mind boggling. It was really sort of shocking given the fact that the military should have had more discipline and responsibility instilled in their members, certainly compared to other areas of the government.— May 19, 2011 9:53 p.m.
Filner For Mayor?
No, I have never met Filner.— May 19, 2011 9:49 p.m.
Filner For Mayor?
I find it curious you would make a selection for a mayoral candidate because you like the fact he heckled a sitting president more than 20 yrs ago. ============== When one makes a stand against a sitting Presdient, which will certainly result in retaliation (and it did as Bush himself remarked), that says soemthing to me about their charcater and make up. I respect and admire person who will stand up against the odds and take a stand for what is right no matter what that may cost (in Filner's case political retaliation). Anyone can go with the flow, but one who stands up to what they see as injustice at a serious cost to their personal and professional life is someone you want on your side. I have worked with so many spineless jellyfish cowards who would not stand up for rights when it was needed and counted-like I would- that it amazed me, tons of jellyfish in the world.— May 19, 2011 9:49 p.m.
Filner For Mayor?
I don't see how Bob Filner could interfere with DA Dumanis legally unless there was a clear issue of civil rights. ================== Legislators CANNOT interfer with any ACTIVE criminal or civil case, it is a violation of their sepration of powers. They can act once the case is over (if your connected or important-do NOT expect this if you're a little guy or uncommected), but they cannot do a thing in an active case, and you should not even ask them. The law is clear, we have three seperate but equal branches of gov and one cannot intrude upon or into the other's jurisdiction.— May 19, 2011 9:43 p.m.
Bill to Cut Benefits of Felonious Public Employees Fails in Committee. Did Union Bucks Play a Role?
But in the amount of money they steal, they can't come close to topping the greedy scoundrels in the private sector, at the heads of corporations and particularly on Wall Street ==================== Two wrongs don't ever make a right. How many on Wall Street are pulling down the mutli-million/billion comp packages?? Not that many, although the damage is extensive. Now, how many public employees are their in CA? Nationwide?? The largest campaign donations in this state come from the CTA-there are 330K teachers in CA alone. Over 300K cops in CA alone. Those are big numbers. Public employees might not be pulling down the mutli million salaries of a hedge fund manager, but they do more damage on the state and local level-collectively- than Wall Street does. Wall Street is a threat on the national level, but at the local and state level public unions are destroying the poor and middle class with regressive taxes. Democratic legislators need to figure out if they are there to do what they once did, stand up for the poor and middle class, or get pulled around by the nose by public unions.— May 19, 2011 9:38 p.m.
Michael Pines Defends Himself at Arraignment in Vista
Michael Pines was arraigned on four felonies, all of which involved accusations of "stalking" the different persons who moved into the disputed home. ============ Like I said, there is no way this guy will go to trial on 4 felonies, much less get convicted.— May 19, 2011 12:38 p.m.
