Murals in the Barrio
Wow- We ALL love Chicano Park, an iconic place that is a part of the heart and soul of San Diego. Is that Rachel Ortiz (?? Think that was her name) still running Barrio Station across the street from the park????????— November 6, 2011 8:58 p.m.

Second, ...Yes, SurfPup, vendors that work predominantly w/children DO need background checks. It seems very constitutional, sort of along the same line of thinking that admits that bank tellers should be checked for financially related criminal histories, or would-be security guards or cops should be backgrounded. == The problem with your comment is 1) bank tellers work for an employer, and that employer can make the rules of hiring to disqualify applicants with a crimnal conviction/s, same with cop. These are employees, but ice cream vendors are stand alone businesses, they are self employed. They buy a cart and sell their goods. They are not professionals, they do not need a professional license. I do not think an ice cream vendor can be denied the right to sell ice cream if they have a criminal conviction, which is what the background checks are for. I may be worng on this, but from a non-researched opinion it seems odd to me.— November 6, 2011 8:53 p.m.
Emergency broadcast test
Every day at 12 noon the sires were activated and could be heard throughout the city. == Lansing Michigan where I used to live had a HUGE OUTDOOR siren that would be activated on a regular basis for testing and to warn of storms....!!! I rememebr the gov testing on TV stations very good. That was before cable TV, when you only had the 3 big networks/stations (before 1987 and Fox) and maybe 3-6 local UHF independant stations with very weak signals. of course back then TV statiosn would go off the air at 2 AM, always playing the Star Sprangled Banner before shutting down for the night. Man Im old. Kids today have no idea how much better they have it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=969h8gPvYGo .— November 5, 2011 5:20 p.m.
Maienschein Paid $106,270 As Homeless Commissioner
OK, I take the "clown" part back. But he is NOT doing this to give back to the community, but to get a big fat pay check. Totally self serving.— November 5, 2011 5:18 p.m.

What shes did is a felony b/c of the dogs worth. I agree that a felony beef on an issue like this is overkill. I KNOW they must have offered her a plea deal to misdemeanor, bt she went to trial. But whatever the history of the case, a felony conviction is so serious I cannot even begin to understate the seriousness of the matter. Her chances of obtaining ANY kind of professional license are very slim (even a real etstae license). Even misdemeanor convictions can cause huge problems with professional licenses, her ability to vote, her ability to live in rental housing(almost all large apartment owners/landlords today do not allow convicted felons to rent from them), her ability get gainful employment in government and the private sector- all comprimised with a felony under her name. This is one reason ex prisoners have such a hard time not going back to the pen, they are unable to find gainful employment with their records. Anyway-I hope she does appeal, she will lose nothing by appealing, and unless the judge is going to lower the conviction to a misdemenaor she is history.— November 5, 2011 5:16 p.m.

Other under-regulated businesses include card rooms, massage houses, strip clubs, ice cream vendors, and key duplicating businesses. == How does ice cream vendor fit in with these other more "adult" businesses??? Unless you're claiming the vendors should have background checks b/c they work predominantly with children?????? (But that may be unconstitutional.)— November 5, 2011 5:07 p.m.

It is an awful move. This ain't no misdemenaor, this is a FELONY. A FELONY beef on yoru rap sheet is so serious I cannot even begin to go into it, over an issue like this?? She is a fool if she does not appeal.— November 5, 2011 11:09 a.m.
Rumor: Hedgecock May Leave KOGO
I actually used to post on Reeds column in the UT pretty often, and he had me in his corner on many issues, but I LOST it one day when he went after Mike and I unloaded on him-but to his credit he did not ban me form posting there.......— November 5, 2011 10:48 a.m.
