I think the pay rate on a death penalty appeal is only $75 an hour, the prison guards are getting a higher compensation that that-and these are highly skilled lawyers for the most part handling the most important cases in our society. The death penalty doesn't work it is not applied with an even hand and the quality of the lawyer can mean the difference between life and death. There is a prop on the ballot Nov 6 that gets rid of the death penalty for life without parole-i suggest everyone vote for it so we don't waste anymore money on this broken system.— August 5, 2012 12:49 a.m.

Screw U: The Next Bubble May Be Higher Education
**Unpaid student loans are just piling up and I suspect that little or no effort is being made to go after deadbeats.** The scam "fess and costs" associated with student loan defaults, including the ability to attach property without a court order and no statute of limitations, makes SL debt the most profitable and easiest debts to collect-and highly fraudulent, as in forcing defaults to collect the high fees and costs they get. Fees and costs that were/are never incurred. The SL insudtry is colelcting over $1.25 for every $1 of defaulted SL debt. The fact is defaults were NEVER a problem in the SL industry-ever. They had a much lower default rate than any other kind of debt-even in bankruptcy, less thank one half of one percent. The claim that there are tons of **INTENTIONAL** defaulting students out there is 100% false.— August 4, 2012 1:13 p.m.

Prosecutor: Trial Begins Though Stabber is Missing
***The DA has to have more. How did they bring this guy to trial when "the other guy" did the stabbing?*** You have a preliminary hearing before a judge to see if there is *probable cause* for a trial, judges rubber stamp this for prosecutors, they **ALWAYS** find probable cause, yet the vast majority of jury trials, if it goes to a jury trial, end in either a full acquittal or conviction on lessor charges. If a case goes to trial it means the DA has a very weak case.— August 4, 2012 12:57 a.m.
