Union-Tribune Edits Out Name of Owner
It's no surprise that this is the only kind of editing — the wrong kind, of course — going on at the U-T (Uncaught Typos) these days.— June 23, 2011 9:03 p.m.
It Was Scary Up There on the Coronado Bay Bridge
For the record, there's no such thing as the "Coronado Bay Bridge," just as there's no Coronado Bay. It's the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, stretching over San Diego Bay to link the two cities in its name. Just sayin' ...— June 15, 2011 12:17 a.m.
More Layoffs at Union-Tribune
Truly sad to see the continued decimation of what was once a major metro daily newspaper — and don't even get me started on the journalistic atrocity that is SignOn San Diego, where it's glaringly obvious that quality has been totally abandoned in favor of "page views."— June 14, 2011 10:11 p.m.
U-T Employees Restive Again -- Understandably
Don, "Complaints abound" indeed! I've just about given up on the cavalcade of grade-school gaffes that is the U-T's website, SignOn San Diego. A first-time reader would never know that this was once a major metro daily paper. Actually, the morass of mistakes can be traced to a single source: last year's masterstroke of stupidity by upper management in getting rid of the copy desk — the real brain trust and institutional memory of any legitimate newsroom. Now there's nobody left with the requisite skill set to catch those errors before publication, so it falls to frustrated readers to point them out — and even that's no guarantee that they'll be fixed. (Speaking of which, Drew Schlosberg is a FLACK, as in PR guy. FLAK is what the U-T catches for the daily disservice it does to its readers and to good journalism. Just sayin' ...)— March 22, 2011 9:57 p.m.
Surprise: Union-Tribune Solicits Employee Suggestions
Hey, isn't swearing at people in the workplace illegal? Why doesn't somebody take this jackass to HR for a little re-education? There are laws, both state and federal, against creating a hostile work environment. (BTW, this is the third U-T person I've seen or heard in the past month complaining about "Hollering Harry," as this douche-nozzle is known. I overheard the first two commiserating over drinks at one of my favorite watering holes, so it's a good bet that something unlawful is going on here.) What's your read on this, Don?— February 10, 2010 2:25 a.m.
