Heart-Rending Reunion
Could not have explained it better myself, refried--Fred, I think John's point--in part, and as an ongoing theme--is that s*** happens, prayer or no prayer. This piece feels as existential to me as anything. --And who knows, maybe the cycle will finally be successful, sans sky daddy.— December 12, 2009 1:22 a.m.
Saved From Suicide
Thanks, gringo--lovely ;)— December 11, 2009 4:27 a.m.
An Unwanted Break--But Now I'm Home!
We did miss you too, dear--figured you were working on that book. ;) Welcome back!— December 11, 2009 2:30 a.m.
Saved From Suicide
Hey Pete, what group or tribe of Native Americans were you thinking of? Reminds me of the practice of going out on an ice flow--Is this Inuit?— December 11, 2009 2:13 a.m.
"T4M"
re: #5: I'm a little confused by a couple statements: "We live in a sexually charged up society, where its all about women and sex, but when the moment of truth arrives, sometimes the airline lost your baggage." How did you mean to relate ED to the topic here? "The contemporary thing is to play it cool, and gang up on whoever just got outed. Meanwhile, women know how it really is, but hide their feelings so they won't be labeled. Others, men and women alike, act out in secret, and play another part in public." What is "women know how it really is" referencing? Hide feelings about what? Homosexuality? "Finally, men are dogs, right? No, people are dogs. We are all tail wagging, happy, panting dogs when we're around the people we love." Well said. I get so tired of hearing the gender-related bashing. Peeps is peeps, and we are far more alike than some would admit :)— December 11, 2009 1:54 a.m.
Succinctly And Not Entirely Unfairly
"Denying one's coolness is actually a way of affirming the coolness of which one is accused by others of possessing." Oops. I didn't see that you already made this point, Pike--naturally. How uncool of me ;(— December 10, 2009 4:59 p.m.
Succinctly And Not Entirely Unfairly
"What matters is that someone can demonstrate how he isn't cool." Yeah, but this is also part of the problem. EVERYONE likes to be coy and show how s/he isn't cool, really in the hopes that everyone will think, "How entirely cool is that, that s/he can show how cool s/he isn't!?" RE: the discussion on coolness, here is a blog entry on this very subject from our dear friend lallaw, no longer in the blogosphere, though missed. "The Loss of Coolness: http://www.sandiegoreader.com/weblogs/lallaw/2009… "I don't understand what's so wrong with being cool that you must (for example) give yourself a kick in the shins for reading Rolling Stone in the '70's." Actually, I want those! For a project--not sure if that makes me cool or not. I probably can't afford them right now, though. Does that admission make me cool or uncool? ;)— December 10, 2009 4:58 p.m.
Succinctly And Not Entirely Unfairly
"Leather Desk Chair or it can be used for any number of things, thats what I used it for." Hmm. What was that about how words work, Mr. McFailerson? Something of a big old aporia here, no? And what's up with this chair?! It is a leather dining chair, not a desk chair, and he's added some kind of tush enhancer seat cover thingy. Consolidation is to selling everything off as dining chair with pad is to "desk chair." Nice try.— December 10, 2009 4:46 p.m.
Random Pictures Of My Styleline
If you think these are good, he's got some that look like they are straight from a coffeetable book. Hey Joe, why not repost a link to your beautiful work in black and white? Love that first one :)— December 10, 2009 10:35 a.m.
Poultry and Cosmology
Yes, I know your family is awesomely spoiled :) Many questions arise, gringo", in the universe of chiles and garlic: How does boiling chiles for three hours equate to toasting them, and peeling the skin? These are very different preparations, so what is the objective? Just to remove the skin? And I've always heard that toasting adds a smoky flavor that is highly desirable...? Also, would you actually BOIL garlic to precook it for a preparation? I've never used a recipe that asked me to do anything but mince garlic, or add a clove or two to a soup, to be removed later.— December 10, 2009 4:37 a.m.
