Who Killed Richard Swink?
Oceannia420, I also wonder...having seen something similar in a Clairemont neighborhood a year or so ago. The necessity for this kind of procedure is worth questioning?— May 12, 2009 12:50 a.m.
A Neighborhood Affair to Remember
I agree, let's all drop it. I will grit my teeth and not comment on the insanely racist comment "beans."— May 12, 2009 12:27 a.m.

Ok, retraction to Mindy possibly in order. You are attempting to give magics support? That is big of you, storyteller. I retract my "slithering" comment in good faith. This should be a space of contemplation and sincere wishes for recovery.— May 12, 2009 12:23 a.m.

"He might have held too literally to the male/female duality as a physical-world absolute. I'll give ya that." Bingo again! Five across! :) Like the fish denying the existence of the water it swims in, you're in it, whether you like it or not. :)" We can talk about this all you like. I'm not one of those fish, and am as reflexive as they come. To be totally redundant, I'll say I'm self-reflexive. I just got over the mythologies, and started in with more soc and lit theory--eeeks, and watch out, psychoanalysis. "What I got more tired of in the 80s & 90s were all the derivatives of his work that never gave him credit. And of seeing parts of "Power of Myth" shown in every course I took. I just about got "Hero Journeyed" to death myself." Mhhmm hmmm. My experience, too. It served as the only form of spirituality I ever bought in my life, so now I must violently turn against it. (See! There's that reflexivity!) "I need to see MUCH better evidence of that than I have to date. I think that's totally unfounded, and pretty much just the accusation of one New York writer, if I'm not mistaken (and I'm not about to research it tonight)." Nope. I didn't get this from research and have never heard of a New York writer making an accusation. I read it from the horse's mouth, and do not want to twist the quotation so won't attempt, but he made comments about Judaism being more violent and less spiritual than Christianity and all of the myths he homogenized and spoked within its referential wheel. I then started reading backwards, with this in mind. Refried makes a good point about his agenda; we tend to be a lot harder on living contemporary authors' politics, etc. I don't own his works anymore, and don't feel like researching it, so you can have this by default. I no longer feel passionate about it. I will grant that his scholarship was prodigious, and fun to read. Ever read Vladimir Propp, anti--? There is something about these guys trying to force single narratives that gets creepy, and silly. Josh, I don't know what you mean by girls and Robert Bly crap--I was expressing impatience with that kind of thing. And I'm sure I've read--who was that? Oscar Wilde? Hmm, gee I'll have to look him up. Seriously, why did Wilde and Byron come to mind?— May 12, 2009 12:03 a.m.

Mindy, how dare you slither into a blog grieving someone who may be dying. Have a little respect, give it a rest, and go crawl back into your own blogs. We don't need to deal with you, and surely your life is rich enough that you don't need us.— May 11, 2009 11:33 p.m.

Because we CARE, Josh, I will add: ...remembering to call people "who," not "that," such as: The woman "who" had a face transplant, not the woman "that" had a face transplant. And--the possessive apostrophe: As we can see, it can really interfere with the meaning of your posts. I thought "Cops Pay" meant that cops were paying for something; you meant "Cops' Pay," which refers to the salary situation of police officers. I think I'm afraid to see this Crazy Love. It sounds mighty depressing, more so than satires set in funeral homes...— May 11, 2009 11:30 p.m.

Hey antigeekess, glad to hear from you! Of course I was kidding about Walt writing for Joe. With the joke I was referencing Campbell's remarks at the end of an interview with Bill Moyers, about who he'd like to sit around a campfire with, from disparate time periods. Bingo, you got my other reference. He also built them as he wished. Josh, even comparing him to Spalding Gray won't get my hind over to the cineplex to watch Tyson mumble and stumble over the concept of self-awareness. It would take a crane, a lift, and lots and lots of industrial strength funny farm restraints. :)— May 11, 2009 10:25 p.m.
San Diego's Antiochian Orthodox church surprises.
Spliff suggested: "If you believe in nothing you fall for anything!!" Why does the skeptic's position lead to gullibility? Not sure where you're going with that one. Spliff opined: "If you believe in nothing you fall for anything!! SDaniels you said our government has flaws but is a workable system. The flaw is that it is a man made government, so it will never work!!" Spliff, if you had to take all of your requirements and issues, and cobble together a system, what kind of government do you propose? I ask because it doesn't look as though God has the time to run it. Let's get to work, my friend. Give me your platform; if you don't insist on putting church and state in bed together, maybe I'll vote for you. Spliff wondered: "I've never seen two male or female animals having sex , so why are people doing it if humans are suppose to be smarted then animals?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RlTAyNI8WE Well, you asked for that, Spliff. :) Btw, as your bible demonstrates, rape of men by men was commonly considered a way to best the enemy in battle, and to dominate and emasculate them. Loving homosexual partnerships seem a lot more palatable--maybe that's just me... Spliff metaphorized: "SDaniel sorry i didn't build any fences, they were already there." Exactly, why keep polishing them? Touched by the muse, Spliff concluded: "I'll take a marijuana cloud down to earth to halla at yall!!" That is a beautiful image, Spliff. I hope you write much much more like this :)— May 11, 2009 1:39 p.m.
Mike Tyson and Other Documentaries
"Looking at Tysons now bald head as he speaks into the camera, I thought of a Spalding Gray monologue. If Spalding didn't have glasses, but a warrior tattoo across his cheek." Oh Lord, take that one back, Josh. There is no good reason to disrespect an interesting stage actor and monologist with (besides "bald," which makes everyone look alike) an astronomically off base comparison to a thuggish, ear-chewing, and by all accounts homicidally motivated, boxer. ...Or maybe Spalding would have enjoyed that. Either way, not enough connection. The woman with a face transplant! I just can't get over the wonderful medical miracle of it, so didn't know anything about the rest of the story. Sounds like she needs to Google: http://www.rickross.com/groups/abusive.html— May 11, 2009 1:13 p.m.

Hey Mike, thanks for reading! I am working on the "well" bit, which has admittedly been slow coming, but you have to work with what you have. I hope to post something non-related to illness in the coming weeks--life is rich, and I am steeped in it, too! :)— May 11, 2009 2:20 a.m.
