Hey thanks, Joe! I recognize this preoccupation with triangles in pictographs before, and though they are often seen as a feminine symbol of fertility, I think there's more to understanding them as something like a chain of infinity. Got to get out there and check these out. We were thinking of camping maybe in November or December, if it has cooled enough--might not have. Of course the best time to go is very early spring. Btw, I commented on your story--magics, check it out!— July 24, 2009 11:55 a.m.

"Do you really think a professor wouldn't show his idea to an officer??? This man is a teacher at what , snobvard college i'm pretty sure he has seen more racism in his journey to get where he's at!!! So when the cops ask for idea you damm well better believe he showed it!!!!" Spliff is playing on an alliteration in ID/idea, and punning on the fact that professors indeed do deal in ideas and education. Josh, I'm not going to give you the dustjacket synopsis. Go to the library and pick it up. Then we'll talk.— July 24, 2009 11:29 a.m.

magics, I don't think you are really reading some of the posts above, if you think antigeekess is the one leveling the snark & nasty. She is simply calling a spade a spade, my dear. For example, see the link in post #17. A sad state of affairs. Welp, looks like no one wants to discuss Gates's book, so...whatever... I tried.— July 23, 2009 11:43 p.m.

Joe, I'll have to try to map that spot, with the pictographs, as I cannot recall ever seeing them. The view from the badlands is amazing, standing on the edge looking out over those long red fingers of cliff. Is it near the Carrizo badlands?— July 23, 2009 8:10 p.m.

Ahh, guess I was thinking Persian style, then? Will have to check them out.— July 23, 2009 7:54 p.m.

Surely this wasn't a spot for Lawry's. You still owe us a veg soiree, Barbarella. Oops, didn't mean to 'bug' you about it...— July 23, 2009 5:08 p.m.

ARg. I hope it ended well--I'm 'clutching' the arms of my chair in anticipation! You owe your wonderful spouse a road trip in that fine ride, tiki :)— July 23, 2009 5:03 p.m.

Oh, and I think what patience I have with "procedures" in general came from being a guinea pig for nurse practitioners long ago, before having good health insurance. That's right--one has to train and learn and make mistakes somewhere :)— July 23, 2009 5 p.m.

Excellent! I look forward to it. Time to write another myself. eclarabrown inspires :) Btw, they fixed my hair at Paul Mitchell today; it is back to brunette, but with some caramel-colored, and a few remaining gold highlights--they did a fabulous job this time. Of course, even though they charged just for the color this time, since it was a correction, the whole deal has ended up costing me just over $100. Correct me if I am mistaken, eclarabrown, but wouldn't you have gotten an expert cut and color at the "fancy pants" stylist for just under that amount?— July 23, 2009 4:58 p.m.
