President Obama is Stupidly
This is pretty low for you. Are you not well? "Incorrect? Well, provide your exact source. hehehehehehehehehehe"— July 24, 2009 6:22 p.m.

Oh...and "insane," too. Pretty tired of that, too.— July 24, 2009 6:21 p.m.

Josh wrote: "Do you think your views are less important than Elders?" Uh, when did I give the impression they were? I don't think you know what my views are, anyway. Josh wrote: Is it because it would KILL YOU to side with cops over a prominent black man? Or, is it because you are naive enough to believe Gates idiotic story on what happened? I don't need to "side" with anyone. As I've remarked before, that's a particular problem of yours, the need to pit your outdated views of society and history against what you perceive to be their opposites. I guess that's the only way you know or wish to know to generate definitions and positions. Btw, I am at this point pretty sick of you calling me and others "stupid," "idiotic," and "naive," etc. Why don't you just stick to the issues-- if you can?— July 24, 2009 6:13 p.m.

"As for people like Spliff and apparently Obama, they aren't interested in facts, evidence, or reality." Rickey, it's amazing how some words blithely stream out from your fingertips. I'm still holding my breath to hear your narrative of how Western Civilization and the US put a stop to slavery and racism...— July 24, 2009 3:15 p.m.

highrockgirl wrote: "You can do a simple google search to find any of the stats." Actually, there are many stats out there, and I have access to more databases than most bloggers. If you want us to examine the exact source of your evidence, you must give us a link. Good for you hrg. I admire those who work hard and reap benefits for themselves. That was a bit of a low blow on my part, but couldn't resist. If you look into cultural studies themes, you'll find a 'gated community' mentality that is parsed in especial detail, along with plenty of other shaky ideological positions. (I also couldn't resist the play on gates and structures). The fact is, and as you are well aware, your child will have to deal with racial profiling sometime in her life, as she cannot stay behind your community walls forever--despite being graced with and protected by white privilege--as clearly, as as you are likely aware, most darkskinned people are not. She probably already has experienced curious but wounding questions, as well as bias, but it sounds like she has some amazing support behind her, and will hightail it to college where she is safest in this society.— July 24, 2009 3:08 p.m.

Welcome to...Josh's Big Jump to Conclusions: "Why would I pick up a book by an angry racist? Just as I wouldn't read a David Duke book, or something written by Rev. Wright." I don't know why you would. I also don't know how you've clearly identified Prof. Gates as an angry racist, or dismissed his body of work. I have a feeling that you probably haven't even bothered to google him or his work--or is that just me jumping to conclusions? Again, a sad state of affairs... "But just the fact that you've read his book....tells me why you are often biased when claims of racism are thrown out." I'm not sure what you're referring to here. I have not given my opinion on the Gates situation, and don't know what you mean by my "frequent bias when claims of racism are thrown out." Perhaps you can lead me to some quotations in past 'discussions' to show what you mean. You agreed with something that pistolpete initially had to say? What was that, if you don't mind saying? I hope you are not surprised at who your new friends are--but they certainly seem to feel warm and cozy on your threads.— July 24, 2009 2:58 p.m.

Actually, rickey, your post #77 sums up nicely the discrepancies in interpretation--excepting your own flaming caps at the end, which don't really follow. One might instead ask a simple question ("Why?"), leading to an extremely complex set of situations, tangled up with all of our ideological readings of history and social change--in other words, what kinds of myths are we all perpetuating--for no one is the holy arbiter of truth here, with the "correct" interpretation? Also, what makes it so extremely important to fall back on the idea of Blacks exploiting the system, time and time again? What do you stand to lose ideologically? highrockgirl, you have already admitted being a soccer mom who remains behind the gates of your safe community. I'm not sure you have much perspective on race relations to share, but you do certainly seem to have some crumbling ideological biases in need of serious suppport. You should ask yourself why the Gates situation is allowing you to feel such triumph. You should also provide a link and a context for your statistics, if you would like others to consider them with any degree of credibility.— July 24, 2009 2:27 p.m.

"wow...i just realized stories suck when I don't remember all the details." I heartily wish my significant other would reach this valuable conclusion. I was once involved in a desert shoot, out in Anza Borrego. I was about 19, and had still never driven a car, due to health issues. My friend was making a short B&W film for a City College class, and the scenario is simple: a guy pilots a light plane, transporting cocaine across the border, through the desert. He lands, out of fuel, runs out of water, and has nothing but bales of coke in the plane's belly to console him. Either he does some of the coke, or has a heat and thirst-driven fantasy of the Grim Reaper dragging him by a rope across the sand. My first time driving: very very slowly over hardpan (and the hardest pan ever!) dragging this actor, who was some feet back in the sandy wash. Picture the actor in tattered clothing, hanging onto the end of his rope (literally), with the black-cloaked figure of Death dragging him from the other end. Of course, you could not see in the film that I was driving a VW bus pulling both actors. Why didn't they just have the actor playing Death pull the pilot? They wanted an extremely even passage through the sand that "Death" couldn't make look easy enough. Fun stuff!— July 24, 2009 12:07 p.m.
