Joe! 'Splainin' to do, mister! Why have you not told us about
Taco Friday before?

Ranchos Cucina: You cannot forget the vegetarian mole, because it is rare to find, and it is the real deal--have forgotten what region it is from, but it is amazing and authentic. I talked to one of the owners, and she said her grandmother makes huge batches each week--always from scratch. Everything we've eaten here has been excellent--thank god there is a North Park location, too.

Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom: Mindy smells blood, and like her jackal ancestors, must needs sniff out the source. She then waits on the sidelines of the fray, to see if a portion of carcass will be left over or accidentally tossed her way.— October 29, 2009 7:15 p.m.

re: #10-12: Wow, refried, I didn't read it that way. #11 may be saying that CF is not surprised at an opinion--find out what she means? "Disliking the tone" seems to refer to well, not liking the tone of the conversation, or the tone perceived to be directed at her. I get refried that she is saying, "What's up with you, my brother?" not "You are a racist." Why the hysteria, people? And were it even an accusation of racism, why on earth would this bother Pete?— October 29, 2009 3:29 p.m.

This is a great thread, bringing up issues that deserve generous and rational discussion, CuddleFish, as I take you to intend its purpose. I hope that those involved in the original discussions and others can join in to explore the issues further; certainly in the spirit of intellectual discovery, but also towards mending previous misunderstandings. I have a question. You wrote: "Inequalities demand different treatment. What refried gringo didn’t want to get, and SD didn’t think applied as it regards men/women, is the historical difference in status and power which SD rightly pointed out is the proper context for this discussion." I'm happy to share my views on the historical or contemporary treatment of gender, but am not sure what connection you wanted me to make here. The original discussion from which you're quoting was about race, and I don't want to conflate or falsely compare gender and race, though similarities often put them in the same discursive space. Maybe you can clarify? :)— October 29, 2009 12:51 p.m.

The Removal
Brava, cre0! I am honored to read your inaugural blog entry, and be the first to comment. You say the shelters are full--does this include the women's shelter downtown, right off B'way and the 163 off ramp? Kate's, is it called? We used to live in the Church Lofts right across the street, and it seems like an ok place. What about the San Diego Rescue Mission? I thought they took mainly women and children. If you like, AG and I can research some places for you, unless you feel like you have exhausted all of those possibilities. AG is busy with school today herself, but was wondering if you have checked into any of the local tribes in SD, who have had so much success with the casinos. Could they have any programs that might be helpful, for which you might qualify? We can look into this too, if you think it helpful. What also might be something to do: Submit a longer story to the Reader for a cover: Include interesting detail about your family's traditions and life in OK, interspersed with passages about Seminole history, and how your family fits within this history. Maybe consider in this piece how your growing up and your ultimate landing where you are in SD, perhaps, might have been affected by, and to some extent determined by this larger history of "removal?" If we can get some media attention on you for your writing, and for your extraordinary efforts, staying in school with a 4.0 while you are homeless, maybe some opportunities will arise. I hope you do not think me too forward for suggesting these things, and let me know if I should back off. We are just very interested in your story, Cre0, and sad to see you in this predicament. Please write more soon :)— October 29, 2009 10:41 a.m.

Fishikins don't eat fish? Why, might I ask, did you go for the fish screen name, if you are allergic to fish? Nostalgia? Yes, the German truck tacos looked mighty fine and generous on that Yelp pic--but so far away--wish we had one closer. Mainly a liquid diet right now; this convo is driving me cuh-razy...:) Joe, if you can think of anything closer to home for fish tacos --in the downtown/Hillcrest/Banker's Hill areas, that is-- We still haven't tried Mama Testa's, the place on University that is supposed to be the best around. It was featured on a Food Network show, where the owner did a fish taco throwdown with Bobby Flay, and won... http://www.yelp.com/biz/mama-testa-san-diego— October 29, 2009 9:21 a.m.

Tacos Gordo...Was that place covered in the Ed Bedford article? Sounds familiar. No pescado? For shame! I'm always on the hunt for the 'best' fish taco ever. Any suggestions, you two Drs. Taco?— October 29, 2009 8:06 a.m.

Who Killed Richard Swink?
Fred puffed: "And back in America? The beer's gotten much better in the last twenty years, but the women have grown fatter and less attractive." I'm so sure that the women of America are mourning the loss of Fred "the Humongous" something or other.— October 29, 2009 4:35 a.m.
