Alkalinity And Color Theory
Yes! You got one, Pikey! And two others.— November 13, 2009 9:55 a.m.
Supreme Court Justice Asks: Who Passed Bribe?
My profiler-style guess on russl's career: He's able to be online a lot, so he works with computers. He tends to stay middle of the road for the most part, and avoids controversy and confrontation (generally, with some rare exceptions). He is therefore likely comfortable working alone at home, programming software, just taking quick breaks to chat on the Reader.— November 13, 2009 9:52 a.m.
Wine Snobs
"...before concluding, “The left foot.”" "“Based on the teenage-goth-lipstick tint, I can tell you this insolent little syrah is going to need some aeration.”" Gawd, I love your relationship! And I almost bought that "wine diva" spawkly shirt over at Orfila. Been there, guys? Nice cab franc, and pleasant hilly picnic area. Catty, I agree, as long as folk are not trying to make other folk feel badly. I've been around wine people who use wine as an annoying way to manipulate others, and I've been around wine people who try to use their knowledge to enhance the tasting experience, and bring joy to others. It helps if you take genuine pleasure in learning, rather than knee jerk in automatic insecurity over your own tastes or sense of position in a group. “Do you have to like the worst of everything in order to not be a snob?" David's nailed it in a [quoted] paragraph. And surely he knows that not everyone considers Parker of the big wines to be "the" man, and has been snobbed on this point by a Euro or two! ;)— November 13, 2009 9:37 a.m.
A Fear of Cold and Dark
Which chapter and verse of the 120 Days would you like, russl? ;)— November 13, 2009 9:21 a.m.
A Fear of Cold and Dark
Your name, goatttfish. What are you trying to hide? I would like to make that call, and don't have all day, so let's have it.— November 13, 2009 9:03 a.m.
Feeding the Beast
Yes, you are getting ready to jump off the hamster wheel, Grant. Good for you! I can say that I have never performed in a regular career, having been a student most of my life. I have felt like jumping off the wheel with school (bad idea), and with piddling teaching jobs (good ideas). Very nice note to gringo, btw--who no doubt has a teensy bit to learn about sexism yet, but hey, who doesn't! ;) You know, I think refried is the very one to respond to this one. He claims (elsewhere on the site, recently) that each time he has thrown down the towel or trowel and walked out, he's somehow progressed in his life. He will probably come back next week and give you an earful. Meanwhile, I congratulate you on your courageous move, and celebrate with you looking forward to what things really "count" for you ;)— November 13, 2009 8:59 a.m.
Alkalinity And Color Theory
"If I may outright pilfer a motif from a favorite website..." Website not found :( 1. Ah, Brown. They have this cool culture and media program. And Rey Chow! 2. I want a belt buckle that says "Angle"--glitter conditional. 3. Guess which three of these t-shirts I own: http://store.theonion.com/category/tees-hoodies,2…— November 13, 2009 8:48 a.m.
Oobie
I like your story in #5 even more than the orig. essay, quillpena! The heavenly Celeste... ;)— November 13, 2009 8:15 a.m.
A Fear of Cold and Dark
Well, goatttfish, I see you are still about, carrying on a level of discourse that would make all of the professors you mention very proud. In fact, you've given me the idea that it might be nice to reconnect with a couple of them, and I do believe I'll give a call to the department tomorrow. Would you like to provide your real name here, so I might recommend you to them, hmm?— November 13, 2009 12:34 a.m.
None
I must take Fentanyl and oxycodone for pain due to a chronic, incurable illness. Were opiates and opiate derivatives to be outlawed, I'm not sure what I, along with many other patients suffering from this--and other seriously painful diseases, like cancer--would be able to do, short of live in the hospital on intravenous morphine or Dilaudid drip. With the pain medicine, I have a chance of working, writing, and living a meaningful life, which includes pursuit of higher education and connecting with family and friends. Yeah, good luck with your righteous ban, "detoxer," and incidentally, compromise of the quality of many patients' lives.— November 13, 2009 12:03 a.m.
