The Emperor's New Prose
Ms Grant, that's the only way I've ever worked--c/p from Word to the blog section. Does not work like a charm, however. Many of us have had repeated problems with formatting, and this is the worst I've seen thus far. Have tried multiple reformattings in Word, and the same sections keep screwing up. I'll try to figure it out.— November 19, 2009 8:47 p.m.
The Emperor's New Prose
Clearly, it is difficult to read--there is all kinds of missing text that is just cut off, and it has to do with the quoted parts I originally set off as centered rather than aligned right. Text coming either before or after these sections is getting messed up, and you see only part of the first line of a paragraph. Not sure I have the energy to fix it, unless someone has any ideas... Why not Kim Jong-il? The sloganeering idea fit in perfectly. At any rate, it makes no sense to discuss content while it is in this state. Btw, another pesky issue was the word gobbledyg**k. I could not figure out for the longest what the censor was telling me to "watch my mouth about," and by the time I figured it out, I was too fed up with it to fix the formatting.— November 19, 2009 6:22 p.m.
The Emperor's New Prose
Actually, I need help here. Multiple paragraphs are getting cut off entirely, so it makes no sense. Refried, maybe you have a suggestion? I have tried playing around with saving it in different formats, including "web" format, offered in Word's drop down "view" menu...— November 19, 2009 6:15 p.m.
The Emperor's New Prose
I may or may not attempt to fix the formatting here--again. Not sure why this keeps happening to everyone, but really...sigh. Anyway, I wrote this as a new minor in writing, for a class in which we were asked to write using some features of the fairy tale. I added only the mention of Kim Jong-il, which doesn't exactly 'update' it. Enjoy!— November 19, 2009 5:56 p.m.
It's Better To Burn Out Than It Is To Fade
Oh, and forgot to say--it is already hanging on my wall (minus the tiny Kinkade repro) ;)— November 19, 2009 4:27 p.m.
It's Better To Burn Out Than It Is To Fade
For what it's worth, (.02?), Pikey, I enjoyed "the column." Immensely. ;)— November 19, 2009 4:26 p.m.
Men and Babies
Ms Grant stereo-typed: "Think dockers, polo shirt, earnest look on face. "Mom, Dad, we're pregnant!"" Not in the two cases I've heard it: Neither guy wears this uniform, though they fit the stereotype of the white collar--one a television writer, and the other a middle school teacher. The latter does favor LL Bean a little too much, but still--I've never seen a polo ;) Both men were (and remain) deeply in love with their wives, and had planned to have children all their lives. They were excited to make babies with these women they loved--in fact, I can't think of a single man in my admittedly predominantly female family who hasn't been completely devoted to wife and kids. Such expression of love, involvement and commitment really seems to have a lot to do with the quality of upbringing, and with the degree of comfort around and enjoyment of women as friends and company...— November 19, 2009 4:08 p.m.
It's Better To Burn Out Than It Is To Fade
Yeah, guess that would be the more appropriate handle ;)— November 19, 2009 3:50 p.m.
It's Better To Burn Out Than It Is To Fade
I finished my program, including teaching, and you can write the diss from anywhere, dude. ;)— November 19, 2009 1:23 p.m.
