It's Better To Burn Out Than It Is To Fade

Scholarly Research
My father the scholar--excellent conceit, Zachary! "Black mold and whole ecosystems flourish where a brain once was." Hmm. Whose brain? :)— November 21, 2009 4:01 a.m.

"CREATE CONVERSATION AND INTERESTING DEBATE." Hopefully you will someday learn to do this without systematically attacking and hurting people, Josh. That's all I have to say. Over and out.— November 21, 2009 3:15 a.m.

Don't you just wish we really were "dumb broads" and "gals," Board? Wouldn't it make your life, and your "debates" just a heck of a lot easier? Since you like to call names, I'll return the favor: Putz. And I would not put it past you at all, in the name of max hits and a paycheck, to use a couple of sock puppet accounts to try to drum up the very sort of negative controversy that "hurt[s] race relations," to quote you. Why? Because you spend half your blogging time doing just that under your own name (that is, when you are not insulting women or cyclists, or--[insert name of group here]. Continue to enjoy your putz-fest, Josh aka RobertScorpio aka DaniLauder. ;)— November 21, 2009 3:07 a.m.

You do have some points, rickeysays--and no, no one thinks you are Josh ;) I still think Scorpio and Board are almost too similar in style to be coincidence. Scorpio uses "but I digress" and employs many idiomatic quirks that are Josh's standards, and you might say well, what does idiomatic usage prove--except that they MISUSE them in the same exact way. Much of the content either IS similar, or plausible. There are perhaps things we do not know about Josh that he is able to talk about under a sock puppet, too, though I wouldn't want to get into anyone's private affairs. I think Josh has been a little intimidated about expressing his political opinions, and this handle offers a way to do it--to say anything with impunity. I've thought about trying out a new handle and character, as a creative project, but I post too much just being myself, and prefer the responsibility and accountability that come along with using your real name and life story ;)— November 21, 2009 2:32 a.m.

re: #76: Good sleuthing, AG. I did think it strange when I saw that arinoman had posted a response that should have been from RobertScorpio, and thought the former must have been quoting the latter. I didn't bother to scroll up to confirm. It doesn't make a lot of sense, but there you have it. I was watching arinoman to make sure he wasn't goat3fish (who began stalking me outside the Reader) for the obvious reason that both were concerned mainly with racist intent or expression. The other day a post from arinoman on the homepage caught my eye, and it turned out to use the phrase "subtle racism." "Subtle racism" was of course goat3fish's obsession on Brizz's thread. Josh read goat3fish's stuff, though, and could have easily just copied the idea. rickeysays, I invite you to compare Josh's and RobertScorpio's writing, on RobertScorpio's last two blogs. He does everything but use the words "dope" or "goofy." All the other markers are there, and actually hard to miss! Arinoman and Josh? I would not have seen it at first, and it is still a little hard to compute. There is NO way in hell Josh was goat3fish, though. Wow! Hey! I guess we are having fun with the identity stuff--where's SurfPuppy when you need his puppy sleuthing skills? ;)— November 21, 2009 1:33 a.m.

re: #13: "This is my playground. I may hate it at times and love it at others but-this is my playground. Interlopers beware." No, actually it is a public forum, and all of us are welcome. Not very long ago, YOU were the interloper, and many of us have had a hard time accepting the fact that you are sticking around, because your speech is still full of celebratory, arrogant hatred. "The men will make and break alliances at whim but most things come full circle. The womenfolk gossip on endlessly." This makes absolutely no sense. You gossip just as 'endlessly' as anyone else, and in fact, you spend much more time on the resident "gossip" threads than any of the female commenters here. It is this kind of division between the sexes that sickens and disgusts many people today, who have learned to understand and treat each other as multi-faceted human beings, rather than as limited cardboard stands of men and women. You can argue all you want about hormonal differences between the sexes, and how we are taught to deal differently with emotions, but when it comes down to it, we are all just people. In my opinion, it is the least adjusted of folk in society who cling desperately to visions of stereotyped male and female roles, as the only way to understand individuals--big mistake. This way of thinking also reinforces sexual norms that repress those who would transgress them, and live as they want to live. If you look up "heteronormative," a word Pike used recently, you will understand a bit better where I am coming from--that is, if you care to try to think a little differently. re: #11: "But, men will be men. It isn't for women to change them, nor even accept them, simply to know that what they write and how they respond is bound to be different and at times in conflict with what a woman wants to hear." Gringo, you'll have to speak for "men" and "women" as you personally conceive of them, of course--especially some idea of "what a woman wants to hear" or the very limiting "men will be men." So does it follow for you that since men and women are so different in the way they write, that we need to analyze them in separate literatures? Do you always know when a work is by a woman or a man? I do not mean to imply that you are as limited in your conceptions of people as social and private beings as Pete demonstrates that he is, but your statements are often nearly as open to the same manner of interpretation. I do not at all agree with or hold much respect for this lazy, fatalist kind of rhetoric of divisiveness--coming from anyone--and I don't respond to it from Cuddle, either. We have been locked into stereotypical roles of "thinking" and "rational" men and "emotional," "illogical," and "gossiping" women for far too long--geez, this crap was dealt with in the first, clumsy wave of feminist thought.— November 21, 2009 12:32 a.m.

"Irrelevant Personal Update: Moving out of the Lightless Torture Dungeon this weekend. Just down the block and around the corner, but still, I'll be in a house, with floors made of wood and windows that permit light into the home." Whoa. This is no irrelevant personal detail, here. Already, the transfer of the Pikean brain trust to a LIGHTED torture dungeon has affected the quantity of product we receive. Which leads to the question--how will it affect the QUALITY of future deliverables?
